Week 1 with Janice Whiting

Please help me welcome my newest guest designer Janice Whiting! I love her "Candles on Your Cake" sample today that she created for her two year old July birthday boy, with the huge striped candles and a blue cake stamped with the stars! The border with the cut out hats is so cute and I really like how she put the birthday song on the OUTside of the card and used her own handwriting in a white pen to add the name, years from now that personal touch will make it extra special! A very sweet and simple design for a festive summer birthday!

Here is a little more about Janice:

Describe your style/what you think you do best: I think I'm in process of discovering my style but I definitely lean towards styles that are vintage, shabby chic, flowery and classic.

FAVORITE TECHNIQUE: I LOVE paper piercing and coloring!

COLORS/COLOR COMBO: Oooh, there are so many but I definitely love the red/brown combo (really any color with red!)

FAVORITE EMBELLISHMENTS: I love using buttons, brads, rhinestones and of course, RIBBON! :)

FAVORITE GINA K SET BY MELANIE: My favorite Melanie set is "A Year of Flowers." This is a must have set--so versatile and I find myself reaching for it often.

FAVORITE GINA K SETS (FROM ANY ILLUSTRATOR): Hmm, this is a hard one (GinaK sets are so great!)! I will go with Nina Brackett's Lovely Labels or the StampTV Spring Mix sets.

CRAFT SUPPLIES I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: Stamps and ink! ;) (card stock, DP, my copics, cuttlebug, nesties, etc..)

I'VE BEEN STAMPING FOR (HOW LONG): I dabbled in stamps for a few years but got completely addicted just this last year.

I GET MY INSPIRATION FROM: Nature, beautiful color combos, designer papers

THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS I'VE LEARNED ABOUT STAMPING/CARDMAKING ARE: I've learned that there are SO many different styles out there, all of them beautiful in their own way and also, that there are even more super talented people out there and that is OK. There is room in this world for many, many, many talented people including yourself!

SOME OF MY STAMPING/CRAFTING GOALS ARE: Ok, I must confess I would love to be apart of a design team out there somewhere and FOR SURE, apart of the GinaK Designs design team in some respect. I told my husband that my goal is to someday be apart of a design team or company in which I get most of my crafting/stamping supplies for free! :)

ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS: Have confidence in yourself and your natural abilities--we were all made to create!

FAVORITE THING TO MAKE THAT AREN'T CARDS: Oooh, I love to make lots of things. I love to make cakes as they take lots of time and involve lots of details (I'm a detail kinda girl). I also love crocheting afghans, sewing (currently working on a summer dress), jewelry making and scrapbooking.

SOME OF MY STAMPING/CRAFTING ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Well, I don't have too many YET! I was apart of our local scrapbooking store's design team for a year and recently won a Stampin' Sisters in Christ award for one of their challenges.

CHALLENGES I LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN: All of the StampTV challenges, CardPatterns, Card Positioning Systems, Moxie Fab World.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US! Well, I have been studying Russian for the past semester and will be moving to Russia this fall!

WHAT I DO WHEN I'M NOT STAMPING: When I'm not stamping I'm loving on my two sweet boys Elijah (3) and Judah (2), trying to keep my house in some sort of order, and working off these last 15 pounds baby weight (yes, two years and I'm still calling it baby weight!) that I can't seem to shake! ;)

A FAVORITE QUOTE: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight." Prov. 3:5-6
Janice has another project today on her blog using "Candles on Your Cake", let's go see! :)
