Birthday Candy!

This contest is now closed, thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes on my bling story, I am SO SO sorry to hear how many of you went through something similar and never found those precious stones! HUGS!!
Yesterday was my birthday, and what a TREAT to get a couple hundred "happy birthdays!" on Facebook, so sweet everyone, thank you! I had a very nice day, here is a pic of the sky above Austin yesterday afternoon, it's almost always perfectly clear and 70 on my birthday in Texas! :) "Nice time to have a birthday!" everyone always comments when they hear it's on that date. ;) I'll be back in a bit to tell more about how I celebrated, got some catching up to do this morning after my "day off"!

I'd like to give away some blog candy to keep the celebration going, a signed "Bring the Bling" set! Please tell a HAPPY birthday story in the comment section below, I will announce a winner tomorrow morning, and hopefully I'll have a new "bling" sample to post along with it!!

I have been hard at work on some projects I can't yet share yet the past couple weeks (shhh!) but I do see some time coming up to work with all our new sets (and sets soon to come later this month!) hip hip hurray!

  1. Happy belated birthday, Melanie. Sorry I missed wishing it to you earlier. Glad to hear it was a great day. I would love to win your Bring the Bling set. I'm not much of a "thing" present person. Aside from paper crafting supplies, I don't really collect stuff. I like to do things instead. So my best birthday so far (at least as an adult) was to see the theatrical production of Lion King and have dinner at this amazing restaurant that does "French Walks"--where they pair wines with several courses. It was phenomenal. My 39th is coming up in June, and then next year---40 and Fabulous. I'm determined to make that one extra special.

  2. Well, it sounds like you had perfect weather for your birthday! I hope you really enjoyed your day! My happy birthday story was for my 30th birthday. My hubby proposed to me the day before my 30th birthday so that I could say I was engaged before I was 30. I was starting to get a complex about that then. My birthday usually fall around Labor Day weekend, so we had some cousins spending the weekend with us. He then orchestrated a surprise birthday/ engagement/ house warming party. We had just purchased our first home together about 3 weeks earlier. It was an amazing birthday that I will never forget!

  3. Happy belated birthday, Melanie! Should be easy for me to remember from now on, yesterday was my little sister's birthday, too! :) Hmm, happy birthdays. Well, in 2009, a couple of weeks before my 30th I gave birth to Ezra. This year, a couple of weeks after my 32nd birthday I'll give birth to baby #3 so that makes for pretty happy birthdays!

  5. Happy Belated B-day!! I would love to win your Bring to Bling set. I would have to say my 50th was pretty cool. I knew my sisters (3 of them) were up to something. But I had been out with one of them shopping and pulled into my driveway to see all my friends/family on my wrap around porch and in the yard with balloons and signs and shouting "happy b-day!" as loud as they could! definitely won't forget! but I think this years will be way cool as far as presents go, as I have a sneaking suspicion I am getting my request for a Spellbinders Grand Calibur machine.... oh I am so hoping!
    thanks for chance to win.

  7. Happy (belated) Birthday!

I still remember my 10th birthday when I got a purple (my favorite color) bike with a white banana seat (boy am I dating myself!) and handlebar fringes. I so loved that bike.

    Thanks for the bling chance.

  8. Happy belated birthday Melanie!!! Glad you had a great one!!! A few weeks ago my son turned 5! That was a special occasion as only three days separate my birthday from my son's (and also three days separate my husband's from my daughter's!!) and a chance for a party! This year we decided to go with dragons, knights and princesses!! The party was a huge success and will be remembered!!!

  9. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was fantastic!!!

Three years ago we happened to be vacationing on the beach the week of my birthday. My wonderful mom made my cake and my darling husband and children brought me a slice on the beach while my dad sang Happy Birthday. This year I turn 40 and requested a repeat. Gorgeous view, chocolate cake, merlot, and all of my favorite people sounds like a perfect way to celebrate to me!

  10. Happy belated birthday. My best birthday was when I was 9 years old. I was born on Feb. 9 and tradition in our family is to have small home b/d parties until the "big one" (the day you were born). We had a huge party with lots of games, etc. Made my day. I passed it down to my kids. They each had a special day (one at 14, one at 8 and one at 9). They got to choose what they wanted to do. One choose a day at water slide parks with 3 friends, another chose a lake party complete with raffles, the other wanted 6 flags with friends.

  11. Yesterday was my husband's birthday too. Our two granddaughter's were with us and the 5 year old and I made cupcakes for grandpa and then she made a cute card for him using my stamp supplies--she loves my craft room. She stamped a tractor and colored it green and stamped Happy Birthday and a row of multi colored chickens. On the inside she wrote "To the one who loves John Deere--Grandpa" She did a wonderful job and was so happy to give it to him.

  12. A belated Happy Birthday to you!

My "HAPPY" Happy Birthday story goes back to my birthday 1993. My boyfriend arranged a picnic lunch and out we went to a beautiful park. He also had a dozen red roses for me; and hanging from a ribbon on one of the roses was an engagement ring! We were married that November. 17 years and counting....:-)

  14. Happy belated birthday! My parents called me over to thier house and said we would go out to eat and when I got there there were about 25 of my friends there for a surprise 40th birthday party. Turning 40 wasn't so depressing after the party!!

  15. Happy belated birthday. My 50th
    birthday was special. My office
    was secretly decorated that night
by friends and family. Signs were
posted along my route to work.
Daughter had pizza delivered for everyone at work for lunch, plus big
cake. More celebrating than work was done that day.

  16. Happy Birthday Melanie. My best birthday was when my daughter was born the day before my 32nd birthday. I got to go home from the hospital with my new baby girl on my birthday. It was a great day :)

  17. Melanie, this is my first time checking out your site. (got your email address from Marty two weeks ago while in D) the ring story is really amazing, and you are so lucky to have recovered something so special. My Mom in the 60's lost her solitaire while putting mail into a mailbox...she did not ever get it back tho! My Dad bought her another, which left her original ring with out a stone. They both have passed now, but I still keep the thin worn ring as a wonderful memory of Mom. It is so beautiful.

  18. Happy Birthday, Melanie (belatedly). My favorite birthday story is how my husband celebrated my 50th. It began with a surprize invitation to dinner 50 days prior to my birthday. I was given a box to open and to my surprize there was a total of 50 envelopes marked with each upcoming day. Each day leading up to my actual birth date, I opened an envelope to find a scratch off lottery ticket. The anticipation each day of winning and the fun we had with our girls each night for 50 nights was so memorable, making this one the best of all!!! That was 8 years ago. I don't remember how much we won, but that doesn't matter, it was the uniqueness, the fun shared by my family and the anticipation of a "present" for 50 days that is what I remember.

  19. Happy, happy birthday to you Melanie - and may you have many more happy birthdays!
I just got your Bring the Bling set in the mail...no chance to use it yet, but looking forward to it!!! I usually get treated to lunch with cards from 2 wonderful friends; and my husband always says 'get what you would like to have...and dinner out' - how cool is that!!!

  21. My favorite birthday was my Mom's 70th. She was raised in the depression and had never had a "real" birthday party. I invited her friends and dressed the table in a white battenburg lace cloth and lace napkins, & pink rose bud nosegays at each plate, complete with china, silver, place cards and a tiered birthday cake with real pink roses on top(a grown-up tea party). I served a lunceon tea, she opened wrapped presents from her friends, and as we sang happy birthday we were all crying! It was a wonderful day and so special to me now since she passed away 2 years ago. At least I know she had one wonderful birthday!

I would say one of my top favorite bday celebrations was a few years back when my husband came home from Iraq just in time for our daughters 5th birthday. So we had a nuge welcome home/happy birthday bash! It was awesome:)

  29. So glad your ring bling issue resolved in such a positive manner. That "sick sinking feeling" is horrible. Birthday fun to you and bling to a lucky winner....the perfect birthday gift. Not as perfect as finding the stone but still pretty special!

  31. Happy Belated Birthday Melanie! Glad you found your stone for your ring...my ring was stolen from my home...I've since inherited my Mom's and Aunt's diamonds...twice blessed! For my 60th birthday our family was meeting for dinner at an Italian restaurant...my DH had my daughter pick up 5 dozen assorted color roses and carried them into the restaurant! We had flowers all over the house! I loved it so much, I did the same for my sister 3 years later when she turned 60! Thanks for a chance to win the Bling stamp set!

  32. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANIE!!!! WOW, Bring the Bling..this has been on my wish list since I first saw it!!! My most memorable birthday was in 1984...I came home from work and my honey had not only remembered my birthday (prompted by our daughters I'm sure), but he had made dinner AND bought a birthday cake from a bakery!!! This was a VERY big deal for me and you would have to know my husband to have a real appreciation for the story. He does not do special occasions, never has and still doesn't...so I remember that one. But he does remember my birthday and our anniversary every year....enough to say Happy..... He's mellowing with age :o) Hugs to you, Sharon :o)

  33. Happy Birthday Melanie. Six of us high school girlfriends get together every month or two and the year we turned 50 we celebrated each of our birthdays with each other and of course cake. It kind of took the edge off of the realization of being 50.
It was quite a memorable year and I guess since we are creeping up on 60 we will have to do something that tops that year of fun. I'm blessed to have such good friends.

  34. Sorry I missed your birthday, I hope you had a very happy day. My happiest birthday was my 17th. My dad asked me to go for a ride with him to help him with something. When we finally, after many stops, got to a car dealership he said he wanted me to come in with him. He took me into the service department and asked what I thought about a brand new Duster that was being prepped and then told me happy birthday. What a shock that was. And I had never even mentioned getting a car before.

  35. Oh! Happy Belated Birthday! I'm glad you had nice weather for it. :) I have lots of happy birthdays to remember, but I think this one is the best. About 3 years ago, my Mom had to be put in a nursing home. She has dementia. The first year she was in "care" she forgot my birthday, but the second year, she called to sing to me. I started crying because she had forgotten the year before.

  36. This year was my 30th and the weekend leading up to it my DH arranged for our best friends to stay at my parents house for the weekend where he knew we were going to be too for a full weekend of fun with them. My mom had the house all decorated with streamers and signs.
I figured that was it but when my actual birthday came around DH put something all wrapped in tissue paper on the bed next to me before leaving for work, wished me happy birthday and left. I decided to wait for my 2 year old to get up before opening it. When he opened it for me (he is 2 after all) all I could do was cry! My DH (who is not paper craft inclined at ALL and makes fun of me when I ask him what I think if something had made me a card with my son. I keep telling him that a folded piece of paper by him would mean more to me than a store bought card and he finally listened. He had found a couple punched out butterflies sitting on my desk so he glued those on and cut a matching piece of paper and held a colored pencil in my sons hand and wrote happy birthday mommy on it and stuck it to the front. My son colored all on the inside!!!! Awesome!!! When I started to cry my son looked at me and said "oh no" I told him I was crying happy tears because I loved it do much. The rest of the week he would bring me he card off the fridge and say "mommy love it?!?!" and when I said yes he'd say "good. I love it too!!"
Oh and to top it all off there were plastic penguins sitting on my front lawn in the bit of snow left just in case anyone did NOT remember my birthday or didn't know!! Lol

This has been my best birthday EVER!!! and that's without even counting that my actual present was a grand calibur with 2 sets of grand dies!

  37. Happy belated birthday Melanie! I've been away from home for a family wedding for the last week and so glad I got home today. Birthday story? I'm not sure that this was my best birthday ever but we took the family to a local Italian family restaurant. My middle son was about 7 or 8 and he loved lasagna. So he ordered it. After we were served, the waiter came by to ask how everything was and my cutie pie son piped up that his lasagna was not as good as his Mom makes. That was one lovely compliment for my birthday! Don't you just love kids!

  38. Happy Birthday! My favorite bday was in 2008. My condo that I was trying to sell was empty at the time. I invited 2 of my former bosses who are dear friends to the condo and threw my own birthday party! I took my late Mom's antique china, linens and crystal candlesticks. I made her fabulous pizza that she made every Saturday night and for our birthdays. I also made her homemade taffy apples. We spread out all my stamping goodies, made cards, laughed and had a blast the rest of the afternoon. It was the best birthday I had in many years.

  40. Happy Birthday Melanie.
My happiest birthday was last year when the family got together and treated me to a meal out (that included my children's spouses and the six month old grand babies)and presented me with a beautiful watch for my 60th. The really wonderful thing was the inscription on the watch - Proverbs 31:28!!

I love birthdays and I guess it's because my parents always take the time to celebrate our birthdays & make the day special. Lots of Happy memories with photos, yummy food & cakes. I treasure these moments with them.

  44. Hey there, Melanie! B-day gal plus six days that is! Your hands set is among my favs just like the year my dad who suffers Alzheimer's, my DH, one of two sons and a few friends each handed me something it took time to plan, produce, transport, or phone from a distant location for a voice to voice gift all day long for nearly the entire day. wow! For so many years our livelihood was in the make it or break without it season when my birthday came and went that my dear mother was the only one who made over the occasion (which triggers a great many memories to this date). Hands carries a memory laden set of sentiments and impression sparking graphics. Thank you for your thoughtfilled work.
