Blog Candy and Big News!

Well, big news for ME anyway!
I get to meet Tim Gunn tomorrow! Lucky Brand is having a fashion show at the mall here in Austin with Tim in attendance, and everyone who spent $100 or more at the that Lucky Brand location this past week gets to be professionally photographed with him individually after the show and keep the pic!
So, of course, I had to go spend $100* (or slightly more, cough) at the store (and now I have an outfit to meet him in!)! Got my pass, am ready to go.
Now my plan is that I will also present him a copy of my book, because, of course, a gentleman like himself is sure to appreciate the tradition of handmade/handwritten notes! :) And a card telling him how he inspires me to “make it work…” ;) I'm thinking he'll like the simple elegance of this one?? Thoughts?
I'll admit, I've been practicing what I'd *like* to say when I meet him so I don’t gush and come off sounding like an inarticulate stalker! Pray it doesn't fly out the widow when I finally get to the front of the line!
I am so stinkin' excited to tell him how much I've enjoyed watching him on TV (since very first PR season plus 2 seasons of his Guide to Style) and his wisdom and humor for so many years and how he inspires me! If you read my blog regularly, you know I definitely subscribe to his "make it work" philosophy and encourage you all to do the same! I have one of his books to ask him to sign for me, too. They actually had an all shapes and sizes casting call for the fashion show last night as well, but i didn't do that. how fun to be chosen, but of course I need to be front and center to see the whole show (and watch Tim watching the show, then find a way to be first in line to meet him before he's worn out from meet an greets, blah blah, blah!)

Now I've known since Tuesday, but have been holding off making it public for fear of jinxing it; of course, I don't believe in jinxes but if he gets sick or something and doesn't show (oh woe is me!!) or the mall blows up etc then I will have announced it and gotten everyone all excited for nothing! now that it's just a few hours away I just have to spill the beans and let you in on it!

So for today's candy: tell me who YOU would pay money to meet? I'd love to know! (because honestly there aren't many celebrities I can think of wanting to do that for!** There are people that I admire, yes, people that are very talented or terrifically attractive, but really no one that I sort of imagine is looking over my shoulder while I'm making cards or telling me "to edit" or sizing up and critiquing my finished ensemble after dressing, you know?! Yes, I am totally serious!) Oh, and of course, also tell me if you are a fan of Tim! :) I will randomly pick a winner and that person will win a copy of my Bring the Bling set. Subscribers and followers can get a second chance to enter, so if you are not yet following or subscribed, please do so today! Winner announced Monday!

Of course, I will be back to share every juicy detail of the show and meeting him as well as the pics.

Thanks for sharing in my fun! eeeee! Hugs, have a terrific weekend!!

* If you know me well, you know I am a very thrifty shopper and don't normally shop at stores like Lucky Brand, so I must really want to meet him! Oh I love their style, but the Lucky Brand jeans I already owned (and wore to the store to find something to go with) i got from Costco for ay less. However, the blouse (which I will wear Saturday) and belt and shirt I got (both on sale, were super stylish and great quality, so it was worth it, enjoyed trying on half the store to find stuff I would really feel good about spending a little extra on) And, when I think about it, even without the requirement, I'm sure I would have felt like I had to go buy something NEW that he'd approve of, hee! Surely, he'll be okay with my Lucky Brand haul!

** I didn't buy new clothes for it, but I DID buy a plane ticket to Chicago so I could meet Gina a few years back, so, she was on my short list! :)

  1. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I have long been a fan of Jamie Moyer, who now pitches for the Colorado Rockies. He has been involved in charitable causes for children. A passion of mine as well. He's lasted in his career longer than many others and does his job in a non-standard. I think he would be a most interesting individual to meet.

  2. How fun Melanie! I'm excited for you!! I like him a lot too!

Hmmm...who would I "pay" to meet? That's a tough one! But I guess I would say Lucille Ball when she was alive of course! LOL I just 'love Lucy'!

    Have fun tomorrow!!

  3. Ok Mel... I'm not up for the blog candy, of course... but your question had me thinking. Honestly... there are a couple actors I adore but to PAY money to see them??? Nawww.. I'm so not that way about anyone. Now silly as it may sound... I'd pay to go see Mickey Mouse in CA!!! LOL Yes I have and would again! I just can't think of a single soul I'd pay money to see... is that odd??? I mean honestly, there are concerts and such I'd love to go to but nawww the tickets are so expensive. Perhaps I'm just cheap??? LOL I'd love to meet Oprah... and maybe even my teen idol, Donnie Osmond, LMBO.. but to pay to do it... it's just not me. Then again... I'd pay for my kids to see their idols! LOL

  5. I would love to meet Kurt & Brenda Warner or Tony Dungy, and even, gasp, Tim Tebow. I admire their Steadfast faith in God while standing in the spotlight with all they could ever want lying at their feet.

Those are the type people I would love to surround myself with. And Gina K. Definitely Gina! And YOU! I love and admire your professionalism and quiet, humble spirit. Ok. Rambled enough.

Congrats on seeing Tim, and I hope it surpasses your wildest dream!

  10. Have fun, Mel!!! I would pay to meet up with my daughter and her organ studio for their concert out in Los Angeles at The First Congregational Church playing on the world's largest organ ... This Sunday afternoon, I believe!!! What a dream, I wish "Mum" here could be there to hear the music and see my girl as well as all the other students.

  11. I have to admit, there probably isn't any one that I would pay money to meet. I'm not into the whole actor/actress thing. People are people to me but some that I admire the most are Chuck Swindoll, James Dobson, Steve Green, the singer. And I have paid money for his concerts. I might even pay extra to meet him.
Should I be embarrassed to admit I did not know who Tim is? Had to google him.

  12. I can't really say that I would pay to meet a celebrity. But, having been a dancer/gymnast for most of my life, I would probably be willing to pay to watch live a "Dancing with the Stars" show. I am amazed at how talented the pros on that show are. I am sure that would be fun to watch live.

  14. How exciting!!!!! I'm a wee bit jealous :)

As for me, I'd pay exorbitant amounts (and do just about anything!) to meet Justin Timberlake. I clearly was a teenager in the late 90's/early 00's hahaha!

Thanks for your sweet comment on my wedding photos, and for the heads up on the deal today!

  15. There are oodles of people I'd like to meet You of course and Gina K. plus others on the design team but I'd pay to meet Tim Holtz for sure.
As for Tim Gunn, I guess I'll have to admit that I've been living under a rock. I never heard of the man before. I do like his "make it work" sentiment though.

  16. Well, I'd pay money to have a one-hour private lesson from you! I just love your work and design sense. I never miss a blog post. Thanks so muchy for sharing your creativity!

  17. Wow, that's such a cool opportunity! Have a fabulous time. I'd want to meet a newscaster such as Brian Williams (or even better, the late Tim Russert). I find that line of work fascinating because of just how many influential people they've interviewed. I came over from Unity and will be following now. :)

  18. I will have to admit I have no idea who Tim Gunn is but hope you have fun. I am too cheap to pay to see anyone!

  19. Hope you dream comes true with Tim.
I would have to say Tim Holtz, he is awesome. I will get to see him next weekend at a craft convention. He is so crafty. Can't wait to see him.

  20. How exciting for you. Hope the meeting is everything you hope for and more.
I can't say there is any celebrity I'd pay to see other than maybe Tim Tebow or Beth Moore, and I've seen this guy you posted on a commercial, but I really don't know who he is. Am I boring or what?!

  21. How exciting for you to get a picture with Tim Gunn and maybe a chance to speak with him. I like the card, but I would go with something more masculine, and striking colors. Just something to think about. Your husband would be a good one to ask an opinion. Love your blog and inspiration and cards.

  25. I must say, I miss Tim on PR; this last season was definitely not the same without Tim and Heidi. But alas, I watched it anyway. Who would I pay money to see - that's TOO HARD. Not that I'd want to pay money to meet someone, though I like the idea of spending money at a "fav" store in order to do so - I'd prefer it was a craft or cooking type store :-) Have fun - can't wait to hear about your adventure. Maybe, if I have to say who I'd pay to meet it might be Barbara Streisand, or Ellen (Degeneres). She always makes me laugh - her show is real, she doesnt' exploit people, and I always feel good watching her show.

  26. I'm so jealous! I love Tim. I watched All Stars, but every episode I said 'sniff I miss Tim'. I hope you had fun...and got a hug.

  27. Sounds like a fun day... can't wait to read more about it! And see the pic!
I am a big basketball fan. I'd pay to meet a couple of the players on the Celtics team... Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo.

  29. I'm so happy for you getting to meet someone you admire. I have to admit that I had no idea who he was until I read some about him. I've never seen his show. As far as paying to meet someone, I love to meet Dennis Haysbert, but I'm not sure I'd pay to do so. I'd like to meet Judy Dench too, but again, I doubt I'd pay to do so. That doesn't keep me from being pleased as punch for you, though! I'm glad it turned out so well for you.

  30. Oh, wow! How exciting to meet Tim Gunn! Hope it was all you wished for! As for me, I would love to meet Oprah. She is such an inspiration. On the stamping world, I would to meet you and Gina K!

  31. Love the card you made for Tim. I don't have a clue as to who he is but am happy that you get to meet him. I can't really think of anyone that I would pay money just to see. I am too shy and wouldn't know what to say any ways.
