My three year old William is all boy and a perpetual motion machine, he's always on the move! He also especially likes construction, the big machines that go with it, and building things with Dad in the shop. I found this adorable paper 12x12 paper by Miss Elizabeth called "Varoom!" in a pack of 6 sheets at the Dollar Tree! The other papers had planes, trains, trucks all that "boy stuff", which I'm sure you'll be seeing here soon now that I've got my scrapper hat on LOL! Since I started an 8x8 album for him as an infant that someone gave me, I decided to go ahead and cut this down for 8x8 as well. I really like this size for scrapping, it's easier for me than all the space of a 12x12, I just feel the need to fill it all up! I started choosing my DP and a photo that would work with it: William climbing on some huge Lincoln logs at Disneyworld, even though it's not as literal as a construction pic would have been, I liked the composition and colors. I created a little orange jersey for him (his favorite color) stamped on Only Orange CS, colored the sleeves with a white Koh-i Noor and added shadows with an orange one, then stamped a "3" on it, also from "Just So Sporty", to represent his age when the pic was taken.
Next I looked at the paper to give me some cues for choosing what I should play off of to create more decorative elements. I liked the rows of orange cones in the print, so I thought I could make a fun border with scissors or punching out triangles so that my orange mat underneath would peep through. Since I planned on having my shirt on the left, I decided to make the row on the bottom right to pull the eyes around the layout. Luckily I have this Fiskars Large Star Punch, perfect for the job, just slide the paper in, line up the horizontal of the side points with the bottom on the paper and punch. I thought it turned out pretty cool...**
Next I wanted to make some caution tape and sign to give it a real hazardous feel LOL! I stamped "what a" and "boy" on Yoyo Yellow CS, punched it out with my 1 1/4 " square, mounted on a black 1 3/8" square and matted again (I had to just cut around on that one) and mounted it with a dimensional. Then I lined up "I'm a" "BIG" "boy" on my block an stamped in rows on a scrap piece of Yoyo Yellow... and cut and mounted to look like it was roping off section of the page, going under at the top and over at the bottom.

I finished it off with an SU! corner punch and some Gina K Screw Brads. I hope some these ideas are useful to you and this sample allows you to see more possibilites for the "Just So Sporty" set beyond sports!
Don't forget to leave a comment here (telling me what you'd create first with the Sporty set) to win a brand new Scor-Pal and Scor-Mat! Come back tomorrow for another chance to win and see a new project I created using the Scor-Pal! Have a great day!
*unlike my usual whole weekend efforts to finish a page, which is the main reason I stopped scrapping!
**an idea I had that I think would have been fun (but I refrained from doing because I couldn't find my mini alphabet and kind of despise seeing my own writing on a page) is putting a single letter into each punched out area so the cones would spell out a name or date, I was going to put "William" but my minimalist DH said something along the lines of "quit while you're ahead!" but I give you my blessing to go for it if you like! ;)
I would make a card for my brother and SIL who loves watching baseball, their team is Oakland A's. I love your baseball card, I see a CASE'ing coming on. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteOOOhhhh! I'd LOVE a Scor-pal! I'd make a scrapbook for my 3 granddaughters who have played soccer for many years. Many pictures have been taken, but none displayed and they should be!
ReplyDeleteI'd do a scrapbook page of our family's 3 generations of men racing remote control cars! Grandfather, father and son all had a blast the last couple years racing in a bi-county league with the little remote control cars and trucks in different classes and against each other. Talk about competition!! lol This would be great!

I would make a card for my brother...he's underappriciated because I find it hard to make 'boy' cards...poor thing
ReplyDeleteI have relatives who are really into sports so I'm sure I could make cards for them, but I would probably first do a layout with a picture of my middle son wearing his favorite hoodie. The long sleeved hoodie stamp is perfect for that LO!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I LOVE your page! I need to get back into scrapbooking more too!
Adorable page! I love card-making and scrapbooking, so I would make a Packers card for my husband and a Packer scrapbook page for my one year old son. My son will be sporting his new A.J. Hawk Packers jersey this weekend, so I'll have lots of new pictures to scrapbook!
ReplyDeleteI would make cards for my girls and all of their friends who are into sports!
ReplyDeleteI would make cards for those "big" birthdays, several are coming up this year in our family. This set would also be helpful for new big brothers and sisters, we have a bunch of babies coming soon. What a thoughtful set!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute page. That set is so versatile. I plan on making a cheer sweatshirt for my niece. I know she'll love it.
ReplyDeleteI would make thank you and birthday cards for the guys in my life. I might even make some layouts with my nephews and even some when my DH was coaching...oh I can't forget my DD when she was playing. Thanks so much for a chance to win the awesome set. YOU ROCK!
ReplyDeletei see many many birthday card and teacher card options within just so sporty, you have the BEST ideas! thank you for the chance to win
ReplyDeleteI just looked at this set on Gina K's blog and literally thought "I need this set. I could make a "I'm with the band" shirt for my dad. He's been playing the guitar for about five years and has an actual shirt that says that. AND, it's so difficult to make cards for men. They're so difficult!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win this. I've got this on my wish list.
What a great page!! So clever, I love what you did, those tiny details make such an impact.
ReplyDeleteI think I would make a super Dad card for my father. Guy cards are hard to make and I think this would be a great set for that.
The page is darling! You are so talented! I am looking forward to buying your new set - it will be perfect to make cards for my neices and nehphews! Thank you for the chance to win the score pal!
ReplyDeleteI would scrap my daughter. She just started middle school and is planning on playing every sport that is available.!

ReplyDeleteI cant wait to get my hands on this set...like last time got so many ideas...first thing I'm doing is making the shirt with my nephews #'s they had during baseball on them, makes it more personal!
Awesome scrapbook page...love the colours in it! If I had the Sporty set I would make a card for my uncle who's a real baseball fan. I also would use it for a scrapbook page as I have pics of my niece playing ball.
ReplyDeleteI think that the first project I would make is a card for my sister who placed first in her age division in a race she recently ran. I would use the hoodie and the words "you're a STAR" with a couple of stars on the hoodie as well!
ReplyDeleteI would scrap my daughters and my husband who all do Tae Kwon Do together. And have done this for almost 10 years now. I'm so behind!
ReplyDeleteJust so Sporty is a fantastic stamp set! I love how you used it on this page! It's a fun page! I love the trick you did using the star punch!
ReplyDeleteI would scrap my granddaughter, who just started High School and will be playing Field Hockey this fall!
ReplyDeleteGreat page, Mel...the idea for the "cones" on the bottom was genius!
ReplyDeleteI plan on making "favors" for my DD's soccer team with each of their numbers on a jersey on the topper...they share having spaghetti dinners at everyone's house the night before a game! They all love brownies, so their dessert will be a take home thing...can you believe 22 girls can go through 10 lbs of spaghetti and 8 loaves of garlic bread in 30 minutes! True story! :)

My son is five and is into all kinds of sports throughout the year. So, my first project will be to create a mini album of him being 'sporty'!

Hi, I have hundreds (well maybe not that many) photos of son playing socccer, basketball and baseball so the new set will come in handy for scrapbooking and making cards he will smile at.
ReplyDeleteWhat I nice bright boy page! I love the cones, and the caution tape, I was shocked to read you made it, I just assumed at first glance that it was premade! What would I do with this set? Gee I can think of several uses! All my girls coaches, cards for the male teachers, my nephew also loves construction stuff his fav is the excavator! My first thought when I saw the hoodie, was something for my sporty daughter, maybe a scrapbook page of her basketball team!
ReplyDeleteLove your page! Cute idea for the punch.
ReplyDeleteI would make fun Red Sox related cards for all my fanatical friends! Outside Fenway there are some hilarious homemade shirts that vendors sell (mostly dissing Yankees!). Thanks for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteI saw this layout last night at the party and I absolutely love it. I love this set and I would use it to make cards for friends, just because. I would also use it to make a card for my son, the athlete of the family, and my DH, the sports nut of the family!
ReplyDeleteMy son made the All Star team for Little League in our county, so I would use this stamp set for the scrapbook pages of his baseball season.
ReplyDeleteLove all of these images! Great job on creating this stamp set.
Mel - I am so excited to get this Sport Set and I'm even more excited that you remembered us Cheer Moms! My DD has been cheering since she was five and I cheered for twelve years in my younger days!

ReplyDeleteI already have my first project in mind for this sporty set. My daughter is a senior in HS and I will make invitations for her graduation party from the one of the shirts saying "Class of 2009". Her school colors are black and orange which should work well with either shirt. I think her friends will love it! Thanks for the chance to win the Scor-Pal and mat.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH!!! Between the Little Tees set and Just So Sporty, I have tons o'ideas for my 16 year old daughter who made the VARSITY Girls Basketball team!! Whoo Hoo! And I see lots of decorating ideas for her locker and her teammates! I have A LOT of stamping to do....oh my...then all the scrapbooking of a ton of pics from the upcoming season!! I'm gonna be in stamping heaven!
ReplyDeleteDeborah in TX
Wow - how generous!!! I'd love a Scor-Pal - it's on my birthday list. With the Sporty Set, I would use it to make cards and LOs of the warring jerseys in my family. I'm a diehard Cowboys fan while my family are diehard Eagles fans and the two do not mix well. It would be an awesome invite to make for the Cowboys/Eagles games this season. :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of making a card with my brother-in-lawas favorite football team or a birthday card for a girl using a hoodie!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely make baseball "stuff" for my son who is a Cleveland Indians fanatic. Cards, notebooks, maybe even a scrapbook page. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI'm in a hurry - almost bought that star punch TODAY (40% at Michaels on all punches)...didn't. Now that I see how you've used it - I'm off and running. I've NEVER EVER thought of using that type of punch like that...corner rounder, etc - yes I figured that out, but not this. THANKS!!! Back soon to read your latest post.
ReplyDeleteCool trick with the star punch.
ReplyDeleteI'd make a soccer scrapbook page or a treat for my youngest ds's coach.

What I would create with the Sporty set? Something for fall, with that adorable hoodie.

Jerseys with my nephews number on it. Blue and Gold
ReplyDeleteOh, I will make several scrap pages for my two boys who play football on two different teams, then some soccer pages, and also some birthday cards for all three of them! With hoodies so popular -they have lots of them-I see lots of other cards and scrap pages with boy and girl themes. Great set!!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome to have a set that I could use to make cards for all my neices and nephews! They are all baseball players and fanatics! lol Your set would be perfect for it! I would love to win the Scor Pal and mat, I haven't even seen them in person, but I see what you and others do with them and can see that it is a must have! Thank you for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteHI Melanie,
ReplyDeleteLove your new Sporty set. All 3 of my boys are athletes and I make mini sport albums for each of them. I would use the new set for soccer, basketball and football. What a fun new design you have come up with. Have to order this set soon.
This is a great scrapbook page. I didn't realize how you did the cones until you described it, but that was great. I never thought of that - now I have another use for that punch. Thanks for sharing.
