Boys and their Toys

Time to stamp a BIG BOY tin!* I've been meaning to make more tins for my kids (mentioned camouflage the other day, but I got really inspired to get on it after reading Erika's wristy post and her son kept askign to turn her tins into "bug jars"! I'd made the "tiny treasures" and "this belongs to" labels specifically with Jonathan in mind because he's always out finding things when out on an "adventure", but really like the idea of a bug box. ("Survival Kit" is from WIYT?2) I didn't find any great buggy paper at the store so just went with the originally planned camo. Still have quite a bit of that 8 1/2 x 11 sheet (25 cents at Hobby Lobby) left. Looks like I have to scrap a page about making the tin with it!!**
I made the hole using the small Cropodile side and threaded through a piece of "leather" (it's actually a waxed brown cotton cord from Joann's(cheap), looks like a leather strap but thinner.) Inside there is room for some little bug tweezers and a magnifying glass, you can find this stuff at the dollar store. (Still lots of room for sticks and stones, frogs and snails and... you get the drift!)If you intend it for bugs make sure you punch a few tiny air holes(but I'd do this with my piercing tool if I were you so nothing ESCAPES!)

After gluing on all the labels, I handed Jonathan the marker to write his name. I had to bite my tongue a bit when I saw how he'd altered my border! I'm happy to let him take credit for that design! ;) (He took the pic too)

He wore it to bed last night. And will take it to school tomorrow. And the next. And probably to his wedding some day! (The orange around his mouth is spaghetti, not a condition)

I'll check back and show you some of his finds, there's always something interesting, with a story! One tomorrow(that he found "pre-tin") you'll like, it's also a good NSR TIP! :)

*This could just has easily have been for my hubby though (my other big boy!) with different kit contents. Minus the strap. I think that's what he'd call "a man purse", not for him!

**My poor kids. If "my basket" were a scrapbook, I'd be caught up with a page for every day of their life!! But I'm just not that great a scrapper...need to share the few pages I have done with you sometime. Remind me! Unfortunately I can show their whole albums in a couple posts! :(

AFTERTHOUGHT: Laminating these would have been VERY WISE. (Oh well, he doesn't seem to care if his stuff gets wet/dirty!!)

This is great and I know my two boys would love one. Must make a trip to Hobby Lobby on my day off I am thinking.
Glad to hear you aren't much of a scrapper either. I struggle with the idea of sitting down with my five million pictures that are on the computer. I think that is what my problem is, I don't know where to start! I bought the albums, just a matter of actually putting something in it...haha!
TFS!! luv it!

So cute! Happy to see something for the boys! I have two...one little and one much bigger :) My 9yr old son always has a Kool-aid mustache! a.l.w.a.y.s. I was happy to see that his school pictures must of been doctored up or the mustache was light that day! LOL

Wish I had half your energy and talent!

Happy April Fools!

Melanie ~ Very cute idea. There is a river behind my mom's house that my kids and nephews love to go exploring. This would be perfect for all four of them. I'll keep my eye out for those goodies at the dollar store.

I also thought of another great use for your tins - to hold jewelery in your pocketbook or when traveling :)

ALSO... I sent out my card this morning... Thank you for the opportunity to do something so fun for someone like that. I hope the person has as much fun opening them all up.

What a super COOOOL idea!!! I'm thinking even my 15 y.o. son would use a camoflauge tin.....you know, with gum, mints, change, etc. because it would be cool!! He hates carrying a wallet!! And his clothing is mostly jeans and cammo!!! LOL Kudos for another "hit"!!! Your little guy is just a cutie pie!!!

He's adorable! I love your boy tin! My son would love it too. And I'm sure he'd do some altering to my stamping...he likes to stamp his own things in totally his own way!

Ah, boys, boys, boys! I will be putting that on my "craft list" for when my nephew comes to visit this summer. I am already collecting supplies. He is 7 and has a little brother AND little sister at home so he loves to come to Nini's house (that's me) 'cuz he gets to make all kinds of messy and fun things! He is ALWAYS wanting to hunt bug and critters so this is RIGHT up his ally! Thanks for sharing!

Johnathan sure is getting big. Since you kicked me to the curb I don't get to see him as much.

Love the camo paper. I will have to keep my eye out for some of that. I know lot's of boys and men that love their camo.

awww, these are fantastic! Look at sweet Jonathan...he's so proud! What a great treat for the boys and I am getting inspired to think up something my DH might actually haul around using this set! How fun would that be if I got him to do that--total Kodak moment for sure! tfs Melanie!

Love it when you show something boyish. everyone does so much girly girl stuff and it leaves out the boys. though mine is now 17 I have no girls and my life evolves around boy stuff. thanks for more boy ideas
