A Hip Rocker

So do you remember that rocking baby card (that really rocked!) and video I made a few months back? (one of my fave baby designs ever?) Well, now I have the stamps for you to mass produce the perfect little baby faces for lots of these cards LOL! Here's my new and improved version using "Hip to Be Square"! (little pink cheeks are made by stamping the smallest circle from "Inspiration Mosaic"on either side.

I embossed the Pure Luxury White here with the Cuttlebug Argyle folder, I love how that looks the side of a woven bassinet. Greeting from the s stamped on a Cuttlebug diecut tag, and circle for base is Mountain Rose Glimmer from Paper Temptress. Polished Stone Mosaic

This shimmery card uses specialty papers and the polished stone technique! Begin with glossy CS, drop dots of metallic and colored ink from reinkers, here Gold Encore and Regal Rose, then take a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol and dab and twist onto the paper to blend the colors together to get this marbling effect, it's like magic watching the paper resist and create beautiful patterns before your eyes. Next I stamped the "Inspiration Mosaic" grid in Black Staz On over it, now it looks like an opulent marble tile floor! The mosaic stamp is just perfect with polished stone, you must try! I reverse masked the boxes and stamped in the "Tropical Silhouettes" flowers, then added the greeting. The silhouettes are stinkign stamped directly onto the polished stone. Last I matted it onto Retro Black Glossy Lustre , Retro Gold Glossy Lustre (the wavy lines on this are really cool with the gold marbling ) and Azalea Metallic CS, all from Paper Temptress. With all the shimmer and texture in the stone pattern you create, you really don't need any embellishments! What an easy card, less than 10 minutes!

Angel Baby

Here's a really easy card to make with "Wee Tees", I was inspired by one of the fancy corner punches I have and how they look like little wings, thought they'd be adorable paired with the onesie and little halo (traced with the Stardust pen) in this set. Card uses Paper Temptress Metallic Amethyst with White Diamond, and the floral background and pieced onesie use the Gina K "Springtime in Paris" digital pack.

The DP actually started as a square; I cut around the flower pattern through the middle and then spread it out to reveal the white underneath, to resemble billowy clouds. Last, I added a few white paper flowers and Basic Grey buttons.

Our Gina K Designs sneak peeks start THIS Sunday night! Mine's up first, eeek!! I am SO excited about this one, (of course, I'm always excited, but it is completely different and so versatile that I'm going to be using it with our other new sets in the previews!) Wait til you see! The only thing I'm going to say about it now, it's gonna be "BIG"!* ;)

Soccer Spin

Here are spinner cards I made for my son Jonathan's coaches at the end of the soccer season. I punched out the balls from "Sporty Accessories" with a 1" circle punch and made the spinner with the SU! Word Window punch.


His team was the "Yellow Jackets" and they had those beautiful shimmery yellow jerseys so I made the stars, jersey from "Just So Sporty" and card base from Paper Temptress Gold Metallic paper, these metallic papers are GREAT for sports jerseys! (and are on sale this month!) I stamped "#1" and "Thank U Coach" from the same set and drew some wrinkles around the jersey outline with a yellow Koh-i Noor to give them some depth. TIP: Use Staz-On Ink with these metallic papers , some inks are slow to dry on this specialty finish and can smear or not show up as well, but Staz-On dries instantly!

For a spinner card, you need two pennies and two pop dots, the stack goes in this order: stamped image, pop dot, penny, pop dot, punched slot, penny!



Here it is above in action! :) Yup, that's what I sound like (when I'm cheering, that is, but not nearly as loud as I would at the actual game!) ;)

On a Silver Platter

It's all in this details! The luxurious papers and delicate touches on this card make Rupa's richly detailed cake from "With this Ring" all the yummier!
This card uses Silver CS and Pearl Glimmer from Paper Temptress. Cake is stamped on Gina K Pure Luxury White in Memento Black. Champagne is colored with Lionet Gold Copic. I embossed the pearl background with the Leafy Branch CB folder and accented with sateen flowers and half back pearls, a few tiny ones adorn the flower centers on the cake. The platter is made from a white and silver Petite classic and Scalloped ovals.

Leather Boots!!

Love these little boots from Theresa's "Out West" set, they were stamped on LEATHER PAPER from Paper Temptress (all her leather paper is 25% until May 10!) and then shaded and colored with Copics before cutting them out and popping them up. I wanted to show as much of this cool texture on both the black and gray colors so I just did more wide layers.

Isn't this paper incredible?? I used my Scor-Bug all the way around for the piercing and added some adhesive metal dots to the corners and created a little lasso with some natural hemp and adhered around the corner and under the mat. isn't that font fantastic? The whole card is just bringing out "my inner cowgirl", makes me want to go order a sassparilla in a heavy accent... ;)

Faking it: Leather and Other Stuff

SO I love Paper Temptress Leather CS (which is 40% off this month!!), and it is perfect for Theresa's new "Out West" set! Although Patricia doesn't currently carry it in brown, you can create a custom color by inking up her white or ivory leather CS and this will have a more realistic-looking patina than a solid brown finish would. The piece on the right is ivory, the piece on the left is ivory I sponged with Antique Linen and Rich Cocoa inks. I stamped the boots onto the same paper and shaded them with my Copics, the colorless blender moves the ink around so nicely on this paper.

I also used my Scor Bug to create a pierced outline around the mat, as well as just free-handing some curved pierced lines all over it to mimic the tooled design on the boots. (I had a moment of Uh-oh, I don't know this is going to look!) but I think it turned out really nice, yay! (whew!) I used the Labels One die and Fancy Corner punches, leaving them ivory for contrast and a two tone effect(labels One die was sponged a tiny bit with the stencil in place to make the outline pop. Base and oval frame are Gina K Pure Luxury Chocolate Kiss.

So how do you like the fancy edge on that brown frame? You can make it with the Scalloped Oval Nestabilites. Cut out a scalloped oval like you normally would (I also cut out a smaller classic oval to make the window) and then offset the scalloped die so it will cut into the middle of each hump, it gives you this super fancy edge when you cut it again! Because the oval is not symmetrical in the way a circle is when you offset it like this you get these small and large humps, but if you do it with a die like a circle, you can fake the "Pinking Circles" set of Nestabilities dies, see below.

Here I'm using the petite scalloped circle die. I've already cut my red paper and rotated it just slightly so I see a little "arrowhead" pointing inward between each hump.

After you run it back through, the little piece will fall out and you have a perfectly "pinked" edge! You can get this effect with the regular scalloped dies as well, you'll just have bigger points. Although I have MOST of the Nestabilities sets, the pinking edge is not a set I ever bought, although it really looks cools with certain images, so this way, I don't have to buy them! (and you don't either! that's $25 you save! ) :)

Sneak Peek: Not Forgotten

You're going to be so moved when you see the full set reveal for Gina's "Not Forgotten" tonight, a new set from Gina K Designs that will be a must in any stampers collection. Sometimes we need to hear fro people the most on days when we are missing our departed loved ones, and those times can be the hardest to find the right words for or right card. This set has you covered.
This DP is one of my favorite prints from the Basic Grey Offbeat pack, aren't those colors and pattern amazing?? The brown in it is a perfect match for the new Gina K Pure Luxury Chocolate Kiss CS I used for the base and mat. The greeting is beautiful enough to be it's own focal point when paired with a pretty DP or stamped background, here I framed it up in Petite Classic and Scalloped Nestabilities, sponging some bordering blue on before removing the die. The chocolate gingham I strung through the slit and tied is from the Floral Frenzy kit.

What's this? Did I sew for you today? No, that was using my new favorite tool, the Scor Bug, I went all the way around the card using that and my Scor-Pal with three quick turns and faux- stitched it with a brown pen! I LOVE IT!! (and you will, too!

Inside I added the strip of DP I had left after cutting the mat for the front and pierced and faux stitched across the top and bottom. I used the same shimmery CS from Paper Temptress for the inside, adding a greeting from the same set, along with a white paper flower adhered with a glue dot. Although many of the sentiments in the set are appropriate for those difficult "firsts", (anniversaries, holidays without a loved one), this greeting is a great one for any time you want to convey "I'm thinking of you both today, for no reason other than I love you..."

Sneak Peek: "Nurse Feelgood" and "Notes for Mom"

I've been saying it for over a year, "Dr Feelgood needs a nurse!" , and, at long last she is here, thank you Cammie for creating this set to go with our favorite resident physician!! Along with lots of other hospital "stuff", of course... I had a "get well card" all ready to peek with this set, but then spent more time playing and really loved how this altered "teacher" card turned out!

Here I cut the hat off "Nurse Feelgood" and altered her hair a bit to give her a perky ponytail like my son's music teacher. I made a chalk board from Gina K Pure Luxury Black Onyx CS and stamped the "i {heart} my Teacher" from the set in Cream White Ink and wrote in "Music" with the white Inkssentials pen. This handwritten font in this set is really nice because it is pretty easy to write in the subject of your choice for a close match! :) Then I Googled "musical score" so I could draw a an accurate staff just using my white pen again with a straight edge. For fun, I drew little hearts on instead of notes, in no particular arrangement, if you really tried to play this it would probably sound like my singing! The pen takes a while to dry so I did smudge it a bit in places, fortunately that adds to the realism of my chalk board LOL! I backed it with some Metallic Crystal paper from Paper Temptress and scored it a couple times so I could make a little chalk rail and added some metal dots at the top to "hang it". Base is also Black Onyx and the Vermilion Sparkle CS is also from Paper Temptress, has a bit of a glitter to it, very pretty!

Click on the pic above for a closeup, did you see the score I doodled onto her papers? That's a little "personalization opportunity" I love about this set, a blank canvas to fill in whatever is appropriate for this lovely lady to hold. I'll be sharing some other ideas for that little stack of papers at at the release party, can't wait!!

For our next peek, we have Gina's "Free with Three" set "Notes to Mom", a very special any-time set with a gorgeous mix of greetings and fonts, both classic and modern at the same time! To create a soft look on this Mother's Day card, I stamped two of the flowers from Asela's "Friendship's Garden" all over a piece of Vellum CS in Memento Rich Cocoa and adhering to this Cameo Coral Base on the left with glue dots (hidden under the white grosgrain) ;)

I stamped the flower again on this Cryogen White CS from Paper Temptress and colored it with Copics. I cut this out and then popped it up on another piece of the same CS I die cut with a Petite Oval Nestabilitie and sponged on some Cameo Coral ink, using the die as a stencil, love how the shimmer shows through!

Shaped Wine Tag

Here is a little shaped card that measures about 3 1/2" x 1 1/2", simply made by stamping the wine glass on a piece of folded CS, the top of the glass just above the score so it holds together when cutting out through the two layers. I thought it would be perfect for attaching to a little gift bag or looping around the neck of a bottle of wine you are gifting with a piece of metallic cord! I like how it stands on it's own. :)
I made this quite a while ago but hadn't shared yet because I had such a difficult time getting it photographed properly! I used Vintage SilverLuster CS from Paper Temptress, click this link to see the finish, it was the most beautiful swirl texture, something like mother of pearl which I though be gorgeous with the image but can't really get the detail to show up in the photo Becca's of it's reflectiveness and texture, as well as that camera wants to focus on that greeting inside! grrr! LOL! I stamped it with Memento Black and colored with a Cardinal Copic.

When you open it, I stamped the "like fine wine..." quote from "A Charmed Life" under the bowl of the glass. If the bottom looks a little flat here, it is, I trimmed along the bottom to leave a flatter edge so you could stand it up.

Another thing I like about this paper, as with many of Paper Temptress's textured offerings, the inside is smooth white, perfect for the inside of cards! :)

Let's do Girls Night!

Here's a card I put together for a friend whom I try to get together with once a month, but with families, activities etc it too often becomes every two or three! I am determined now that I have this "A Charmed Life" set to make more cards to remind my friends (and ME!) it's been too long since we last went out LOL! (our "playdates" are usually pretty casual and low key, and don't involve wine, just dinner and a movie or play, hence the "tees"!) :) The "I heart" is from "Little Tees" also, but the greetings are from "A Charmed Life". Pink tee is pieced from Basic Grey Bittersweet, and I bedazzled the other with some self adhesive rhinestones (and trimmed the 3/4 sleeves of the ringer to make it look like little more flirty) I cut the black CS with my scalloped scissors and then stamped a little charm off each scallop. I made a little shadow around each and covered them with with Sakura Glaze. Base is Mountain Rose Glimmer from Paper Temptress and the ribbon is SU! Tafetta.

Potluck Friday Challenge

I'm hosting Potluck Friday over at Stamp TV this week, and I enjoyed Sharri's challenge last week of incorporating something from the kitchen on the card so much, it got me thinking this week we should incorporate stamping with something that's not a stamp! (it need not be from the kitchen, although mine is) What do I mean? Find something with a cool texture or shape that you can ink...then stamp it on your paper! :) Some example are leaves, a rubber eraser, cork, sole of a shoe, etc and then see how these shapes and textures will compliment your Gina K Designs or other favorite rubber stamp images...
Here I tried to recreate those cool "cup splatter" stamps I've seen before which look so great on collage style cards or similar, using a real wine glass to compliment the wine glass image! I rolled the bottom of wine glass base onto my Cranberry Crisp ink pad, then spritzed it with a little water to blur it and stamped it onto some natural antique parchment paper from Paper Temptress. I love how it looks like a used placemat now, LOL! I painted in the wine with ink from the pad and my Niji waterbrush. I added a teensy bit of shading with a warm grey Copic and painted on a little white from my craft pad to the glass.

I hadn't had a chance to ink up this quote yet from "A Charmed Life", it really reminds of the days BK (Before Kids) when I would show up at my neighbor friend's place after work to moan about "my 8-5" over a glass of vino, there's just something about "whining" to your BFF over some wine! To go along with my little 'tude (that's "attitude" for short! snort!), I used "DIVA" and my tiara stamps (don't forget the rhinestone bling!), both from my "Little Tees" for my charm, LOVE how well these go with the quote LOL! Think thi would be a really fun "having one of those days??" kind of card! :) I ran my black marker along the edge of the mat and adhered it to my Gina K Pure Luxury White Base.

Cheers! Clean and Simple...

Here's a very basic card with "A Charmed Life" but it's one of my favorites because the simplicity of the layout and that golden shimmery mat, this stardream Gold (text weight is nice for layering) from Paper Temptress, is like liquid gold catching the sunlight, isn't that paper to die for?! Really sets off the white wine in the glass. I added two white sateen flowers. especially love using these shimmery flowers with a shimmery paper, and adhesive pearls to the centers and to the wine charm ring. A simple "cheers!" is stamped on the tag. All my stamping here was with Memento Black, but I stamped it off first so it would be a dark grey, for a more subtle look. This could be for most any occasion, I just think it says "celebrate! You're fabulous!" Base is Gina K Pure Luxury White, silver is SU! I colored the glass and added shadows with my C-1 and C-3 Copics (love how these pick up the silver), adding just that light gray all over the glass makes it seem separate from the background and gives it dimension. and colored the white wine with Lionet Gold and Buttercup Yellow Copics. For shading the liquid, make the "u" around the underside edge of the glass the darkest, here the liquid is the deepest, and lightest in the center.

What's for Dinner?

This is a little 5x7 acrylic frame I picked up at Hobby lobby for 1.99. I cut some Gina K Pure Luxury Black Onyx CS slightly smaller than the farame to fit and a piece of Natural Parchment from Paper Temptress to layer on top of that to make it look like a formal printed menu. The glass from "A Charmed Life" is stamped in Memento Tuxedo black at the bottom corner and colored with peerless watercolor Royal Crimson and a Niji waterbrush. I stamped one of the 25 pt Times Roman letters from my Just Rite set (M for Muenchinger) onto the little tag on white CS and cut it out (nbut now that I have the 5/8" circle punch, IN will be punching them from here on out!!) :) "On the Menu" I arranged in the 50 and 95 pt font sets on the Just Rite rectangle stamper. After adhering 3 fancy corners punches, I slipped this into the frame and now I have a dry erase board I can change up (4 packs of black dry erase markers at Hobby Lobby, too, cheap!) it is really fun to write out your dinner menu, even when it's not a fancy meal, just to make it feel like you're eating out, or to simply let everyone know, since everyone will ask, "What's for dinner?" Guests love to read it as they come in to kitchen and get extra hungry! ;) This is a fast project you can match to your kitchen or dining decor and makes a GREAT gift, for the person who has everything! be sure to add their own monogram initial for their family.

Click on the pic for a closeup and you'll see I made a little Polyshrink wine charm of the glass to match. they sell the wine charm rings, beads, everything you need for this at Hobby lobby or your LSS. Stamp in Stazon, I colored mine with a Copic before shrinking. Don't forget to stamp your charm of choice ifirst, it's gonna be really tiny (and look so cute!) after shrinking

Margaritaville

Margaritas are really, REALLY popular in Austin, TX. Make the "A Charmed Life" glass truly authentic-looking by stamping it on vellum , then paper piecing just the liquid with this awesome Astrobright Green Textured CS from Paper Temptress, has kind of a bubbly, hammered look to the paper which perfectly mimics a slushy frozen concoction! Putting it behind the velum would have more realistic I suppose, but you see less of that cool texture that way, this way also you don't have to worry about hiding your adhesive when you just glue it on top! (Isn't that cool how the colored layers behind show through the glass?) I used this again in the mats plus the other two textured shades, yellow and red. Card base is Paper Temptress Blu Raspberry, and black mat (that's just one big black sqaure by the way behind there, isn't it kind of cool thow that black outline snakes around...?) is Gina K Black Onyx . I painted on a little white from my SU! white craft pad for shine, outlined the rim with Stardust Stickles, and stuck some adhesive metal dots onto the charm ring. Balck ribbon is from the Floral Frenzy kit. I love how this layout turned out: after moving my panels back and forth for longer than I will admit to, I finally decided offsetting them to the edges made a really funky fresh look i was kind of going for a "beach towel"/'club" vibe, how'd I do?

It got up to 82 here today, and it's still officially winter! Who's in need a cold drink...? have a good one! Cheers!

How do you like your Sorbet?

This card uses the Sorbet Double-sided papers from Paper Temptress, which had me intrigued as soon as I saw it on the site and had me wanting to create a card where you definitely saw BOTH of those fabulous colors! I really like the colors pairings, they’re just so fresh and modern, but my favorite color combo is this Cappuccino/Blue Ice, they are the perfect shades of chocolate and turquoise! (and I had no problem finding coordinating inks and embellishments already in my stash to match, which is a big plus!) There are other really juicy colors for spring, too, : melon, kiwi, etc, YUM, you'll see more of these here, I promise! This was made from only one piece of paper, I just love rich, vibrant color on each side! I Cuttlebugged the card front, and since it is essentially like TWO pieces of paper glued to each other, you get this deep, deep embossing. Then I made a scalloped window to let some of that beautiful blue peep through as well as bending down the flap for another a little teaser of what’s to come!

When you open it, you card is fully lined with this gorgeous color! (greeting and paper flowers are from Bold Flowers in the Floral Frenzy Kit) If you’ve ever tried to line a card completely, you know it’s difficult to get the score just right, and for them to fold together properly, the bulk just doesn’t really allow it, and you have to trim one to make it smaller, but with this, no problem! I give these Double-sided Sorbet papers two thumbs up!

TIP: to make some really beautiful coordinating "buttons", stick an adhesive page pebble to a wide piece of ribbon. Carefully trim around it with your scissors and add a circle mat just a touch larger in metallic or contrasting colored CS behind it. Doesn't that ribbed texture and sheen of the ribbon coming through the pebble look cool?! I was so excited how they turned out!

Luster and Ore

Here is the full card I peeked at the Wednesday night's Paper Temptress party! This sample uses three papers, all from Paper Temptress, the Black and White you see are the new “Lustre” papers. I recommend having your stripes going in the same direction if you’re going to layer them like this, isn’t that black on white and matching striped texture and sheen on both stunning and so coordinated-looking? This White Lustre paper gives your images such a 3D look, and even though the paper has the finest striped texture, you still get such perfect detail in your stamp image, even those tiniest of lines as you can see (I really don’t know how it works, but it does! ) The mat behind the butterfly is Gold Ore, it is perfectly smooth and so shiny, I can only think to compare to the gold foil stars your receive for a job well-done LOL! Use these in large sections or even just the tiniest borders like this to really accentuate earthy tones; your reds, orange and yellows (like I’ve used on the butterfly) will look like they’re on fire when paired with this to this paper! This was a simple and quick card to make, but the papers really say WOW! These papers cost a little more than some I work with, but they need little or no ornamentation which saves me time and money in the end, so I’m loving these!

Easy as 1, 2, 3!

A recipe for success: 1 ink, 2 stamps, 3 papers= 1 fast and FABULOUS card!

Today's sample uses two beautiful new papers from Paper Temptress, Elegant Laid (Avalanche White) and Silver Lustre, a kind of prismatic holographic paper that allows the ink to "slip" below the surface to create an almost 3-D effect. Clcik the pic for a closeup to see the silver shimmer! The silver stripes are so beautiful by themselves, I stamped Gina K's "Tropical Flowers" image on top in Memento Tuxedo Black ink (the silver paper turns the black ink a dark gray) and mounted it onto SU! Basic Gray CS. The Elegant Laid paper, which I stamped my greeting onto (These are words put together from my "Say it with Flowers" set tp form the one sentiment, stamped off Memento Black once to get a dark grey ink to match the flowers) has a very fine striped texture as well. I made sure the lines were both going vertically in my design, gorgeous with the vertical of the flowers. The matted panels are all popped up on dimensionals. This a is a 4 1/4" square card.

Another terrific feature of this Lustre paper, the back is smooth white, so this makes a fantastic card base: outside you have a beautiful silver finish, the inside is white for writing your message! Above I have it pulled over so you can see the front and the back.

Love this simple elegance, this was a VERY simple card, but I think it's just stunning! Special papers like these with a beautiful image make it easy...you don't even need embellishments or ribbon, the whole card front looks like a gorgeous piece of striped satin!
