Last Day!

Quickly, and I'll be back with new projects later: today is the last day to upload a card for my challenge on StampTV! Dare to Get Dirty Week!

"It's Dare to Get Dirty Week at Splitcoaststampers! If you're a Fan Club Member this is your chance to play along with Dirty Girls, past and present, in a ton of fun challenges. ) If you're not a Fan Club Member, this is the perfect time to become one! You can get all the info here.) We'd love to have you play with us this week! There are 33 challenges to choose from - play one or play them all. if you do play them all (and you can combine challenges on your cards so it's not as many as it sounds like!), you can enter for the Challenge Queen Prize pack, which consists of 12, count em 12 prizes that have been donated, I don't know what all of them are yet but one is my "A Beautiful Life" stamp set! All prizes go to the winner, go for it!

The card I'm sharing today is for a challenge hosted by ME and you can see the details here. (It almost meets the requirements for 6 ther challenges, so you can combine them! :) You WON'T be able to combine 33 into one project thugh, several are sketches!) This shadowbox uses "A Beautiful Life" and Gina's butterfly from "Hope is Faith". Cardstock is Pure Luxury White on the front, Grass Green on the back and lined with Lemon Drop. Front and back layers are 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score at 3/4" and 1 1/2" on both ends of the green and white, fold on the scores, and adhere the end flaps together with Scor-Tape. When pressed flat, it fits into a large envelope. Butterfly and bee are colored with Copics and covered with Crystal Stickles. I also embellished it with adhesive pearls and some flourish punches.

It's a good time to get dirty! :)

Button, button...

So how many new jars of Pure Luxury Buttons did YOU buy the other night? (I think I started with four...started! I believe I have red, orange, yellow, turquoise on the way! Soon to be followed by blue, pink, purple, green, masculine...)
Buttons are too beautiful and fun to hoard, they must be played with! Fun Year Round is the prefect backdrop for adding an assortment of buttons in contrasting colors and various sizes, and even adding one of its round greetings to a button with Stazon! Until my new buttons arrive (I'm crossing my fingers for Tuesday, we'll see!), I am working on using up my Basic Grey Cupcake mix here! After I adhered all the buttons with glue dots, I chose coordinating Copics to fill in the tiny spaces in between the circles, making the color bounce around, for instance putting red in corners opposite a red button, etc. This is a single layer card stamped on Pure Luxury White in Memento Black ink. This card just shouts happy!

I made this card for Theresa's "In the Round" challenge to use 9 more circles, be sure to play and upload your card this weekend to StampTV, you could win a free set of stamps! :)

Today's thank you card card features just a stamped greeting and then some fun with these new Renaissance Hearts Nestabilities I received, embellished with adhesive pearls and black crystals, and using Pure Luxury White Black Onyx, and Wild Dandelion card stocks.

Gina K Designs Challenge!

Welcome to our latest Gina K Design team challenge hop! This month Gina challenged us (and now you!) to create a card inspired by a favorite summer memory using our newest sets from the last release. I had never really associated summer with birthdays before since none of our family had birthday in these months... until my first child came along...
Jonathan was born on July 1st, so stars and stripey things always often abound for his party decorations! His first birthday was my first time to get really crafty as a mother (I started stamping just a few months after he was born, I actually stamped "I'm one!" and the date on this onesie he's wearing below) and throw a big party in our first home, so that year in particular has lots of special memories.

We also had a LOT of people so I spelled out the "happy birthday..." on cupcakes and as well as make an American flag cake with berries, I'm sure you've seen those before!

Now for the card (which I call "Stars, Stripes and Cupcakes Forever")! All the images on this card are from "Candles on your Cake" and I wanted to showcase some of the images in different ways than I have for you previously. I thought the tiniest candle row stamped in Brick Red would make some fun and festive stripes for an American flag (no need to Stampamjig these, just use a gridline block), and the stars are embossed in white on In the Navy cardstock. I layered onto Silver Lining, more navy and Pure Luxury White.

The stripey candle is probably my favorite because you can add such quick pops of colors inking it up with different markers! The flag background still needed a little something so I spelled out "I love cupcakes" over it with the candle and heart and cupcake from the set. Marvy Scalloped Heart punches fit the heart. TIP: To make the frosting sit on top a nice puffy cupcake, stamp the bottom onto yellow paper (or "flavor" of choice), then round off the top above the image as you cut. Now ink up just the edge of the bold icing with a marker, cut out and pop up on a dimensional slightly above the cupcake liner. Last I added Stardust pen to the centers of the stars and on the heart...

Card Patterns Sketch

Hello! Today's card uses a sketch from Card Patterns, this week Gina K Designs is sponsoring! I used "Gifts from the Sea" and created the scalloped side in the sketch with my shell border, but stamped it on the liner of my card and then cut away about a half inch from the front of the Pure Luxury In the Navy base to reveal just one side.
I used one of Nina's Lovely labels and a Labels One die for the square part of the sketch, thinking this crosshatch on her label paired with the sea theme looked like netting. Kraft starfish and white sand dollar are colored, accented with glitter and popped up, along with another sand dollar from the border popped up like a button over the stitched navy ribbon. I stamped the speckle image along the bottom to create a textured sandy look.

Here is the card opened with the greeting, I added more glitter and just a few warm gray shadows to the images. Thank you Card Patterns for this fun sketch! Maybe you can play along to, just add your creation to the linky on their blog!

Color Challenge

Here is a card I made with "Gifts from the Sea" for Tina's Color Challenge on STV, using Black, White and Gray. I may have taken a teensy liberty with my "gray": this is Soft Sand, grayer and softer than Kraft, just a fabulous neutral! I started out with Nina's label, thinking how pretty the stripes would be to frame up the scallop, nestled into these curling flourishes like waves on the beach. It maake this little shell the star of the show, perect with the quote... I added pearls to the top and bottom after die cutting the labels with Labels Four, then popped up the Copic shaded shell on top. Voila! Pretty simple.

Illustrator Challenge Hop

Welcome to this month's illustrator challenge hop! This month, Gina K asked us to use the newest sets we designed and draw inspiration for our cards from a favorite movie...with my set "Gifts from the Sea", that was a pretty easy choice: "Beaches"! Just about the queen mother of all chick flicks, starring the divine Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, this 4 hanky sob story (with singing!) about two women who meet on the boardwalk as children spans decades and coastlines, romances and breakups, beginnings, passages and endings. Something for everyone! (I haven't seen this movie in about 20 years but when it first came out I think I saw it about 6 times at the theater, and knew all the songs) So I HAD to use *pink* and make my card super girly, and use this very appropriate quote about what a good cry or a trip to the beach with your best girlfriend can do: "The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea".
Card stock is Pure Luxury White for the base, Turquoise Sea, Innocent Pink, and the white stamped mats are watercolor paper. This is the first time I got to use my new Sea Scape Impressabilities plate, let me show what I did to make the background and why watercolor paper works great for this. First I used the jumbo sponge daubers to add aqua and coral ink over the plate like a stencil. I started with aqua, making an undulating wave pattern than went all over the plate, then finished the open areas with coral, keeping the colors separate so they wouldn't get too muddy looking later.

Then I removed the stencil to reveal the white shell pattern and spritzed it a few times with water in a Mini mister until the colors blended as much as I wanted. Ink on watercolor paper bleeds a lot more when misted than it does on regular card stock and produces really cool, painterly results. (You can get a pad of this paper at any LSS.) I thought this would be a perfect beach look, as well as mimic tears falling onto paper.... If your paper gets too wet, dry with your heat gun a few seconds before continuing.

Last I used my speckle stamp from the set to add some spatters of coral and aqua dots over the the pattern. I embossed and stenciled the Innocent Pink with the same plate and added some raffia and a layer of Turquoise Sea I Cuttlebugged with Floral Fantasy for more texture. The quote is stamped on the fancy tag die cut, traced with a Quickie Glue pen and glitter to reference the sparkling salt! One stamped scallop shell with an adhesive pearl finishes the card. Hope this inspires! :)

CASE me, please!

I was delighted to have Tina Gilliland send me a "Gifts from the Sea" card (see below) inspired by this swing design I have in "Interactive Cards", published by Annie's Attic.
The seahorse from "Eclectic Summer" is only attached at the top so it gently sways back in forth like it's swimming the current, what a great image for that design and wonderful way to mix these two sets, doesn't the bold image looks elegant with the realsitic starfish? She replaced so many of the details with new similar ones that work perfectly for a sea card, the punched flourishes now look like seaweed instead of pumpkin vines, she replaced the bats with bubble in the background, and finally the starfish for the punched stars LOL! too cool! (Inside of the card finsihes the quote, you can see it in her STV gallery) Awesome job, Tina, I'm so glad you are enjoying the book and adapting the designs to make them your own! :)

It is a joy to hear how much each of you are enjoying my stamp designs as well as how my cards have helped you create your own new ones, so I just had to share this great design today, as well as throw down a challenge to all my readers: please create a card inspired by anything I've made on this blog or posted in my STV gallery, but change it up somehow, colors, design, give it your own fresh spin, new and improved! I'll be receiving some new rubber for our next release shortly and I'll need to pick some new designing friends to help out with my newest set! I will only say it is nothing like the last couple sets I've released... go big and bold! :) Using any of my images in this challenge is a plus, it helps me see how you view and work with my designs, and how they fit with your own personal style.

I am so sorry I forgot to post a winner for my tie dye challenge, I got so wrapped up in getting ready for our previews last weekend! Oops!! :( Anyway, if you thought there weren't any entries or didn't post because you didn't want to "be the first", I actually (and unintentionally!) used a slightly different Mr. Linky widget so it doesn't display the entries, although you can see them when you click on it (and there were some), sorry if that threw anyone off!

Card Positioning Systems Sponsor

Twilight Inspired...

Wanna win a free stamp set?! I didn't go as literal as I could have with this, but obviously the red, white and black was a must (in addition to the cover art for the novel these colors all have a lot of symbolism in the story), the sahdowy gray leaves add some mystery and atmosphere, and the "Thinking of You" (ahh, young love...to be truly be thinking of someone ALL THE TIME! LOL!) fading over to red (since he craves her blood, get it?? ok, maybe not!) Anyway, I hope you like it! (card uses "Inspiration Mosaic" and leaves from the"Signs of Autumn" StampTV kit) BTW, You can read the whole series in about a week and get lost in it, although you might feel a little guilty for doing so. Making sure you know what Rob Pattison looks like before reading really adds to the experience! ;) I'll go ahead and add a nice one for you...

Potluck Friday: Photo Focal Points

Today I have a simple project I created from "Inspiration Mosaic" and a black white photo I printed out of two of my favorite boys. :) I stamped it in Memento Black on Pure Luxury White and colored it with three cool grey Copic Shades (C-1, C-3, C-5), then Pure Luxury Black Onyx behind it to make the stamping pop. I ran a black marker around the edge of my photo to give it a border that would match the grid. I use black and white schemes on cards all the time, but I don't think I've ever added several grays like this, and I just love how this looks with the black and white pic! "Love" is from the Gina K set "Many Wishes". I decided to slip it into a $2 4x 6 acrylic frame, instead of leaving it as a card because I thought it would be a great everyday addition to our office at home.

For our Potluck Friday Challenge on Stamp TV this week, I would like you to incorporate a photo on your project! (I don't consider this a "scrapping challenge", because no journalling is required and there is no format for size. The intent is to think about how a great picture can be your focal point, (and perfect for cards you send, not just at the holidays!) Please upload your creation sometime this week to the STV gallery with the keyword STVPF25 for a chance to win!


NOW! Separate from THAT challenge, I also made a altered pencil can to match (so figured I 'd share it today!)...

...for Donna's August 3D Challenge on StampTV, this used to be can of beans! (Beans to be-autiful!) I don't how many cans we go through a week here, but I know I could always use more holders for my many stamping accessories, why go to the store for special containers when you have everything you need on hand?

I washed out the can (after taking the lid off with a can opener I got from Pampered Chef, it uncrimped the lid so you have a perfectly smooth, safe opening without a cut edge) and stamped the "Inspiration Mosaic" back to back on a piece of Pure Luxury, size will vary depending on your can. The bean can left room for the black mat (a Campbell's soup can is a perfect fit without the mat for the mosaic stamp leaving that nice 1/8 " border around.) TIP: Use a really "stay put" adhesive like Scor-Tape for the can rap and added photo so it doesn't peel up over time. I chose different sections for my gray shades, being sure to leave some white space, and then applied my photo in a spot where the different shapes would frame it nicely with an open space below it large enough to fit the "laughter" senitment (also from "Many Wishes").

STV Color Challenge

I meant to share this earlier, but we've had so much going on with our sneak peeks, there is still one more day to participate in Jen Marie's color challenge at STV! This week is pink and green, so I went really muted by stamping my background grid from "Inspiration Mosaic" in GRAY ink and then coloring it with pastel shades of green and pink Copics. The tulip from "A Year of Flowers" is cut out and popped up, I matted this on Certainly Celery. I love how the blossom is framed up on its own and then the stem leads your eye down to the boxed sentiment! Can I just say, I am still just SO excited about this cool font every time I stamp up a greeting from this set!!! :)

TIP: have your matching colored blocks bounce around the card to move your eye around, see how the pinks work their way down and the greens go back and forth right to left to right again?

Clock ATC

Hickory dickory dock... here is an ATC (3.5 x 2.5") I made for Cat's Gina K release challenge, there is still time (hee!) to play along and upload your creation to SCS for a chance to win a new stamp set, challenge ends Monday 7 PM CST. I used Nina's new "Special Fathers" and Asela's mouse from "Warm and Fuzzy".

DP is Basic Grey Porcelain, also used Gina K Pure Luxury White and Chocolate Kiss. I stamped the clock twice and carefully trimmed out the window with a craft knife and adhered a piece of acetate behind it before popping it up to create glass door in front of the chimes, look cool and layered IRL but hard to capture in this pic! The white CS is scored to make the wainscot. ATC's are fun to make, but I'll probably attach this to a card front at some point, so look for that new project some time here later LOL!

Potluck Friday 5/22: Textures and Patterns

A little of this a, a little of that, that's what a successful potluck is all about! Are you ready for another Potluck Friday at StampTV?

Today's challenge is to use both texture and pattern on your card. The pattern is pretty self explanatory, any patterned paper you choose that compliments your design! Here I used some of the mottled digi-paper from Gina K's "Jersey Shore" to create water for Rupa's "Guiding Light" seagull.

I added some texture with the Nautical Netting. Your textured element could be something you embossed, a scored pattern your create, a crumpled piece of paper, dry leaves you found outside, anything that adds some nice texture, have fun with it! Sketch Challenge: Clean and Simple (CAS)

Here's what I made for Kurtis's sketch challenge this week on Stamp TV. The three hearts were cut using a Classic Heart Nestabilitie. Greeting from "A Charmed Life"(I just love this font) is stamped in Memento Black, CS is Gina K Pure Luxury White, and DP is Emily's Rich and Shabby" Digital. I used a black pen and piercing template to extend the dot dot dot to either sie to match the sketch better and add more detail. Originally I was going to make this a single layer card with the cuts through the front and DP inside so it would show through (much more CAS!), but I forgot to take one of my CS shims out of my Cuttlebug sandwich when I went to emboss a square on the front to frame it up and it cut through. So here is "Plan B"! The white layer is popped up over the DP and a half back pearl is attached to the center of each heart with a glue dot.

So I was totally inspired by Colleen today, with her ostrich dress up card, I hadn't pulled out my girl "Olivia" from "Jumping for Joy" in a long time! if you have this image, you've probably blinged her up before, I've made some little shoes and accessories for her too, but Colleen's card made me think, "you know, I wonder..." so I pulled out my "A Charmed Life" set...and this was not planned AT ALL but the shoes are a perfect fit LOL!!! Those spike heels make her legs look GOOD, no? Instead of trying to mask I just trimmed them out, cutting off the little jump ring part of the image, and I did NOT cut the space ins between the shoe and the heel out, if you stamp it on white and your background is white, no one will notice that part is not cut, the heel is just too delicate, don't want it falling off while she's on the run, do we? hee hee! The heart charm I stamped first and then drew in the little loop for a necklace, in that order you don't have to worry about stamping it exactly onto the chain.



This uses Donna's sketch for the week over at Stamp TV, have you been playing these?? The DP is from Emily's "Rich and Shabby" Digi pack, CS is Gina K Pure Luxury White and Black Onyx. I used my last two flowers from the "Floral Frenzy Kit" , stamped with the crackle pattern from the Bold Flowers which is also in the kit in Antique Linen distressing ink (used that to sponge around the ostrich mat as well) Sentiment is from "A Charmed Life", too. Image is colored with Copics.

Colored Lilies and a little peek!

I'm baaaack, did you miss me? (Did you even notice I was gone? LOL!) I had to take a couple days off from blogging to stamp for our new release this Thursday, sneak peeks start tomorrow! But this DP is an EARLY peek of a new digital paper Gina K Designs is releasing this week, this time from... Emily Giovanni!! You are going to die when you see some of the other papers in this pack, they are awesome! (and have even more digital potential, can't wait to show you how I've been playing with them !!) I figured it was okay to share since Carolyn already revealed it in this week's Stamp TV Color Challenge !! ( so I'm playing the color challenge with it, too hee hee!) Oh, hey look at that, it also works for this past week's Technique Challenge from Gina: OMS and Pencils, (be sure to watch this video, I learned about turnign the the stump aa file to get a good point, love that tip!!) I used the Koh-i-Noors* on my lilies from "A Year of Flowers" to make thm look like Stargazers. The deep and light shades of pink and red in them are perfect with this striped paper, I just love the texture this paterned paper has, like cloth.

I had to do a little masking to get the flowers and leaves arranged this way, and then cut around the flowers so they'd hang off the mat's edge partly to give it interest but also to make the mat smaller so you could see more of that beautiful patterned paper. Base and ribbon is SU! regal Rose. (The little vase I drew myself, you like? )

*I am very excited to report (although feel a little silly doing so) the Koh-i-Noors DO contain a RED pencil LOL! If you've looked at the product pic or have the pencils, it looks like there are three shades of pink but no red! And being the "red person" that I am, although I still love the pencils, always wondered about that glaring color omission! ;) Well, what do you know, when I sat down to color these, found one of those pinks IS red, the barrel of the pencil is just much pinker that the pencil's true color (If you already knew this, pat yourself on the back) :) I think I've had them for 9 months now and I just figured it out, so be sure to try ALL your supplies, you never know what you'll learn! :)
