Oh, Nuts!!
" Your never-ending kindness means the world to me." This sentiment and row of acorns in Rupa's new "So Grateful" set made me think about what would make Carolyn's squirrel from "Whimsical Autumn" most happy: a never-ending supply of NUTS!!!
Don't these set and styles blend perfectly? Let your friend or loved one know you're nuts about them with this simple card, easy to recreate if you don't mind a little coloring (which actually went relatively quickly with just a few shades from the Koh-i-Noor pack and a blending stump and OMS. I followed up with my warm gray 20% Prismacolor marker for some quick shadows.) The checks in the caramel gingham were the perfect complement for the acorns and squirrel on this sweet, outdoorsy card. Sentiment is stamped on a Nestabilitie Ribbon tag and popped up on dimensionals. Edited to Add: There is a single acorn image in this set and a long row of them(satggered upside down and right side up); I used the row, stamping it 3 (and 1/2) times to cover my card so lining them up like this was very simple.
Remember, proceeds from Rupa's set are going to "Feed the Children", and Cammie's are going tothe Alzheimer's Association! In addition to that, check out all the extra donations and matching contributions that have been offered here, get ready to smile and cry at the generosity!
Have a terrific day! Go NUTS!!!

Haunted Tealight Tutorial
This was frightfully simple to make, "Spooky Silhouettes" indeed! I posted this project during our release party and there was enough interest to create a special tutorial to share with you...
For this project you need:
black CS and ink
vellum (paper, not CS)
Scor-Pal
SU! Tag punch
Fiskars Threading Water Punch
Mono-Multi
tealight candle
scary BOLD stamps! (see link above) :)
Score your 3" x 8 1/2" piece of CS at 2, 4, 6, and 8 inches. Cut off 1/4" of the smallest section at the end.
Punch out a tag from scratch paper and use a bit of adhesive to stick it in the center of each scored section (about 3/8" up, leaving more room at the top for you to punch off the scalloped edge). Insert the CS into your punch with it face up, lining it up with the punched tag and punch. Repeat on each section until you have four windows.
Use the threading water punch across the larger top edge to make a scalloped top (like a castle?) Decorative scissors work too, but the holes from this punch in each scallop add so much more interest and allow light to peep through. Sorry so blurry, but see how there's green showing through on either side of the punch, it shows exactly where to line up your holes, perfect every time!
Stamp the four bold images from "Spooky Silhouettes" onto your vellum paper and trim so that the image will be centered in each window. Make sure you leave them bigger than the window so you have room to adhere them. Check each image behind the window to see how you would like to frame them instead of just centering, they are a little taller than the punch and you may want the top (scarecrow's head) or bottom of the image (fire under the cauldron) to show and not mind the other part being underneath.
Stamp the four bold images from "Spooky Silhouettes" onto your vellum paper and trim so that the image will be centered in each window. make sure you leave them bigger than the window so you have room to adhere them. Draw a little strip of Mono-Multi around each window on one side and add your stamped vellum vignettes. This will be the inside.
Now fold all scored lines and attach the end strip to the other side with more Mono-Multi or Scor-Tape. I love how unlit the vellum looks just like frosted glass.

black CS and ink
vellum (paper, not CS)
Scor-Pal
SU! Tag punch
Fiskars Threading Water Punch
Mono-Multi
tealight candle
scary BOLD stamps! (see link above) :)
Add your tealight inside and carefully light. Isn't that crazy how much it looks like the sun's rising or setting behind those fabulous images? Spoooooooooooooooky!!! Crawl under covers and eat candy corn while you tell ghost stories and watch the light flicker and dance! (Don't be afraid, they're only stamps) :)
How'd you like this Scor-Pal project?? Today is the last day to enter a comment for chance to win a Scor-Pal WITH a Scor-Mat, please leave a comment here. Enter TWICE today if you can also provide an order number from our latest Gina K Designs release you placed any time since Friday night! :) Be sure to check back tomorrow for the winner and a new Scor-Pal project, this time a card using Just So Sporty!
IMPORTANT: Never leave a burning candle unattended and supervise children with this project!!!

Just So Scrappy Tutorial! A Page (Can You Believe it?!)
Pigs were sighted flying in Austin, TX on Sunday, he** froze over, and Melanie Muenchinger completed a scrapbook page! The first in three years!! (my poor kids) The good news was it turned out really cute IMHO, it took less than an hour start to finish (and that includes choosing, editing and printing my photo)* and I only needed one stamp set to make it: my new "Just So Sporty", now available for purchase(BTW, the party last night was off the hook!) I know I'll be making lots of sports pages for both my boys in the future now that I have this set, but it's going to work double duty for other types of pages, like the one I'm sharing today.
My three year old William is all boy and a perpetual motion machine, he's always on the move! He also especially likes construction, the big machines that go with it, and building things with Dad in the shop. I found this adorable paper 12x12 paper by Miss Elizabeth called "Varoom!" in a pack of 6 sheets at the Dollar Tree! The other papers had planes, trains, trucks all that "boy stuff", which I'm sure you'll be seeing here soon now that I've got my scrapper hat on LOL! Since I started an 8x8 album for him as an infant that someone gave me, I decided to go ahead and cut this down for 8x8 as well. I really like this size for scrapping, it's easier for me than all the space of a 12x12, I just feel the need to fill it all up! I started choosing my DP and a photo that would work with it: William climbing on some huge Lincoln logs at Disneyworld, even though it's not as literal as a construction pic would have been, I liked the composition and colors. I created a little orange jersey for him (his favorite color) stamped on Only Orange CS, colored the sleeves with a white Koh-i Noor and added shadows with an orange one, then stamped a "3" on it, also from "Just So Sporty", to represent his age when the pic was taken.
Next I looked at the paper to give me some cues for choosing what I should play off of to create more decorative elements. I liked the rows of orange cones in the print, so I thought I could make a fun border with scissors or punching out triangles so that my orange mat underneath would peep through. Since I planned on having my shirt on the left, I decided to make the row on the bottom right to pull the eyes around the layout. Luckily I have this Fiskars Large Star Punch, perfect for the job, just slide the paper in, line up the horizontal of the side points with the bottom on the paper and punch. I thought it turned out pretty cool...**
Next I wanted to make some caution tape and sign to give it a real hazardous feel LOL! I stamped "what a" and "boy" on Yoyo Yellow CS, punched it out with my 1 1/4 " square, mounted on a black 1 3/8" square and matted again (I had to just cut around on that one) and mounted it with a dimensional. Then I lined up "I'm a" "BIG" "boy" on my block an stamped in rows on a scrap piece of Yoyo Yellow...
and cut and mounted to look like it was roping off section of the page, going under at the top and over at the bottom.

I finished it off with an SU! corner punch and some Gina K Screw Brads. I hope some these ideas are useful to you and this sample allows you to see more possibilites for the "Just So Sporty" set beyond sports!
Don't forget to leave a comment here (telling me what you'd create first with the Sporty set) to win a brand new Scor-Pal and Scor-Mat! Come back tomorrow for another chance to win and see a new project I created using the Scor-Pal! Have a great day!
*unlike my usual whole weekend efforts to finish a page, which is the main reason I stopped scrapping!
**an idea I had that I think would have been fun (but I refrained from doing because I couldn't find my mini alphabet and kind of despise seeing my own writing on a page) is putting a single letter into each punched out area so the cones would spell out a name or date, I was going to put "William" but my minimalist DH said something along the lines of "quit while you're ahead!" but I give you my blessing to go for it if you like! ;)

Sneak Peek #4: Just So Sporty
The idea for "Just So Sporty" occurred to me about .2 milliseconds after "Little Tees" LOL! I must admit, although I've never been much of an athlete myself and don't really follow any televised sports, this set was definitely something I felt my stamp collection needed, but I have never seen a set as inclusive as this before. I'd been reluctant in the past to invest in any "one sport" stamp sets since everyone has a favorite, and kids pick a new one every season, but my hope is that with these versatile words and images you can scrapbook the majority of your sporting events and create sports-themed cards and gifts, perfect for guys or girls of any age. (I do NOT want to say this is a masculine set, since women play sports, too, but definitely has some great options for when flowers and hearts just won't do! LOL!)
I had a hard time choosing which project to share today, they are all so different, but I'll start with this card because it has a lot of elements I'm really happy with and can share tips on how I did them. I made it for my 6 year-old all star, he loves ANY and every sport involving motion! He was particularly disappointed that they don't offer baseball in the fall here for his age group, so I created a little jersey that looks like his team's from this past spring, the inside reads "What a good sport!" (4 separate stamps) to remind him what a talent I think he is at everything he tries...
To make the background, I placed several of the sports (but not all! there's still more if you don't see "yours"!) on my gridline block so I can ink them all at once. To include as many stamps as possible, "ball" is a single stamp to pair up with "volley", "basket" etc (plus I love these two font options). I left a gap wherever "ball" needed to go, and after stamping out all these sports to cover the card base (I used the diagonal on my Scor-Mat as a guide), I went back in with "ball" where I needed it as well as filling in a few more gaps in the corners. (I sponged around the edges later with more gray ink to add some texture.)
Coloring tip: I wanted my new jersey (notice the "boxier" shape of this shirt?) to be a really vivid, solid purple, without looking flat, so I stamped it and the new cap on Lovely Lilac CS, and then went in and added a few wrinkles to the sides and shadows along the bottom and under the sleeves with my purple Koh-i-Noor pencil. Isn't that awesome how much it looks like fabric? (and MUCH faster/uses less supplies than coloring the whole thing, gotta love that!) So try stamping on colored CS and shading with the same or similar colored pencil or marker. My white gel pen recently bit the dust, so I was absolutely delighted to see how opaque my stripes and collar came out with the white Koh-i-Noor on dark CS! I used my Purple Copic Spica on the star I stamped on my cap.
Now I just gotta say I am still amazed at how well the baseball came out LOL! And it was very simple to make. I started with a white die cut and embossed Circle Nestabilitie and sketched on two arcs for the seams with my gray Koh-i-Noor. (I went and grabbed my son's baseball to get it right) :) I saw right away that piercing for the stitching would really make a huge difference, so I made little pairs of holes on either side of the seam with my paper piercer deluxe, and attached each making a little red "V" of my marker.
Baseballs never stay white for long, though, right?! So I sponged around the edges and a few random spots in the middle to make it look more rounded and scuffed. Lucky for me, I never wash my sponge, so mixed in with the gray were all sorts of green shades (most likely Old Olive, Mellow Moss), I think it added a nice grass-stained patina, don't you? I even got a scratch on there by mistake (whoops!), but look, there's one on the real ball, hee hee! ;)
I have a mile-long tip sheet to go with this new set as usual and I hope you're as excited to see the rest of stamps as I am to show them to you! And please rest assured, even if you and your friends aren't "sporty", I've included some things in this set I know you'd still use! (I actually started AND finished my first scrapbook page in 3 years yesterday using stamps from this set only, and it wasn't even a sports-themed page! You can see it at our release party tonight) As you would probably expect, the images in this set and "Little Tees" are all interchangeable, so have fun combining the two to make sporty ringers or girly jerseys ("cheer" or "dance" anyone?) :) Are your fired up for the party tonight now or what?? Don't forget to check out more of this set using a HOODIE this time from Jessica, Joanne, Asela and Gina K ...
And now for the winner of this set: Charlene Herter, who wrote: "I love your card! Another great use for those punches, too." Congrats, Charlene ! Please send me your addy and I will put your stamps in the mail ASAP!
AND NOW for some big news (and the second blog candy offering this week): I've mentioned before Diana Crick and I met at CHA and she heaped on a pile of goodies I've been enjoying and giving away here, as well as oodles of projects I've been making with it and how much I love the new mat, but did you know Diana's also a fan of "Little Tees"? Yup, and she emailed offering to donate a BRAND NEW SCOR-PAL AND SCOR-MAT prize pack (a $55 value!) that I could give away on my blog to one of you in return for me sending her a "Little Tees" set! Well, how could I refuse??? Simply leave one comment on this post to enter, I will be back tomorrow and Sunday announcing how you can get more entries. I will announce a winner Monday, and Diana will ship the prize pack directly to that lucky person!
And now!!!!!! (after the world's longest post LOL!), if you'll excuse me, I have a PARTY to get ready for, please join us tonight at 7PM CST!!!!

Sneak Peek #3: Whimsical Autumn
First I colored the vase with Koh-i-Noor pencils in oranges and yellows and OMS (this pic shows before blending). For autumn, I decided to go bolder than clear glass and opted for amber. :) (That scallop cut out you see has nothing to do with this card if you're wondering, just stamping on a scrap piece of CS!)
*This blog is rated "G", and that's official, I checked it just for grins recently with a widget and got the "General Audiences" rating, despite being flagged for numerous instances of the word "knife" (craft or hobby, hee hee!)

Sneak Peek #2: Spooky Silhouettes and Autumn Leaves

Day Two and two previews today, both using sets designed by Gina K herself! This first uses "Spooky Silhouettes", and the images are just that! They lend themselves to some really fun techniques and make fast fast cards, co coloring! I chose the witch brewing up some trouble, backlit by a white Nestabilitie circle sponged in More Mustard and Pumpkin Pie (to match my Basic Grey Ambrosia DP inside). The black and white DP "Ebony and Alabaster" you see on the front is a new paper we are releasing this Friday, the swirls and dots I thought were perfect with her magic potion!
So I was looking at my new Rounded Corner Punch, and maybe I just had silhouettes on the brain after staring at this set for awhile, but is it just me or does the space in between the two corners look a little like a bat?? I punched out three along the edge (which also makes kind of a cool looking wrought iron "haunted mansion" silhouette on it's own), and added some googley eyes with Mono Multi. I think these give it a not-so-scary, whimsical feel, but omit the eyes if you want to just go for "creepy elegance" LOL!
Speaking of creepy, is this not the spookiest old tree ever? The set also contains lots of little bats that you can stamp around in any formation you please, LOTS of fun! (and don't those punches look cool from inside, too?)
And now for something completely different...

One of my favorite things about Autumn (or any time of year really) is watching the leaves turn. Even though I'm not in a part of the country that gets a true explosion of colors that other areas do, but the rusts and golds are still glorious to behold. "Autumn Leaves", the new "Free With Three" set is going to become a sentimental favorite in my collection, I can tell. I most often like to use beautiful leaves on sympathy cards, they are some of the most appropriate images to convey that "circle of life"...
I stamped my leaves and greeting in Burnt Umber Palette Ink on my mat, cardbase and envelope and colored with Koh-i-Noor pencils, adding a shadow with my Warm Grey 20% Prismacolor marker. I scored a simple border using my Scor-Pal on DCWV Earth Elements Textured CS and sanded it a bit to make it pop. I pulled some natural hemp through after my mounting my Nestabilitie cut focal point on dimensionals, it is my favorite "ribbon" for fall cards, perfect color and twiggy texture...
I'm sorry to say this first sample was made with a purpose beyond previewing the set: I sent it to my mother and Grandpa Ralph a few days ago, hospice had notified her the end was near so she went to be with her father. (I learned Monday he passed away Sunday night in his sleep, probably as I was drafting this post) :( At 92, he had a long, fruitful life, and told us he was ready to go. Ralph Mason was a dentist and an extremely prolific, talented painter all his life who passed along a love of art and a share of his gift to me. They are both proud of the work I am doing and I am so grateful in his last few months he was able to see me realize this dream of mine to become a working artist this past year. It is a legacy I hope I can pass on to my own children.
The sentiment and verse above from "Flowers for Daisy" are all I included inside, I couldn't think of a better way to communicate my love and support than these do ... If you can, please include Ralph and my mother Marty and my Aunt Jeannie in your prayers. Thank you so much.

Sneak Peek #1: So Grateful
The images in Rupa's new "So Grateful" set have me yearning for some fall weather after this hot summer, along with all the wonderful textures and baking smells it brings with it! A gorgeous set for a worthy cause: from September 5th through Thanksgiving, Gina K will be donating a portion from each set sold to "Feed the Children"! This little acorn and leaf is one of my favorite stamps in the set, it makes the perfect, dainty accent for a fall "Thank you".
I really liked the pattern in the little acorn top, so I used my Scor-Pal to make some diagonal lines each way in a criss-cross pattern on my More Mustard CS. I stamped SU!'s Sanded background over it with Silver Encore Ink to bring out that beautiful gray in the Basic Grey Ambrosia DP mat.
Although it was not my intent when I began this card, I used all three of the new punches I just bought from Gina K! The Threading Water Punch across the bottom (this lines up like a dream when you're punching, so cool!!), four Large Flourish punches (from DCWV Earth Elements Textured CS) glued on to make a swirly border (this acorn image actually has some terrific little curlicues on it's topper but I had to cut them off for my accent, they were so delicate) and one of the Rounded Corners at the bottom (attached with a brad). My acorn is colored with Koh-i-Noor and OMS, the buttery texture of these pencils was perfect for the nut. After cutting out, I curved it under with my fingers to make it look more 3D before mounting it on a dimensional.
Additional supplies: SU! Basic Gray CS, Ribbon, hodge podge frame, brads

Bunch o' Punch: Part 2
More fun with the Large Flourish Punch! (If you missed my first report on this fab punch, see here) The first two pics show how fantastic these look framing any of your long greetings(isn't that yummy looking?)...
or short ones, it's all how you configure them, very fun to play around with them to create just the right shape you need for your stamp and your layout!
Next, a quick tip on getting mirror image flourishes perfectly placed to create a negative border: Take a flourish you have already punched out and hold on your CS with one hand (or tack it down with some temporary adhesive), with your other hand slide your punch in on the other side, with the punch facing up always so you can see where you are punching, to where it it's aligned/looks reflected and punch.
Now flip your paper over, slide the CS into the punch and punch again.
NOW SAVE this as a guide for punching out borders into your cards (without needing to do the trick of holding a punched flourish on one side each time) or for stencilling! Below you can see I made one 4 1/4" long, the width of an A2 card and tall enough to accomodate my punch plus extra so you don't end up sponging over the edge of your mat, leave yourself some room (It hangs over the edges of the DP here on either side because I have it cut down 1/4 inch to mount on my card base, but you can still center it, making sure both overhangs are even)
and here is a 5 1/2" one, the length on an A2 card (I went ahead and also punched just part of the flourish on either side of this longer one). I made one strip of my strips with the flourish's small ends pointing out and the other with the small ends pointing in. This way I can use the long one across the short side of a card still when I want to stencil a different pattern and vice versa, KWIM?
This is what both look like finished, both very pretty options! (DP Is Basic Grey Ambrosia)
Now that I have these two stencils I can simply place them on top of my mats or card bases and sponge away (or see where I need to punch), they will be centered every time. You can do one color ink as I did here or blend several colors, but for a shabby chic/distressed look the trick is not to get the ink completely even. Start light and pull your stencil away to see if you need to go back in and add more to an area, because you can't take away ink once it's on!
Sneak peeks start tomorrow, can't wait, can't wait, blog candy, new stamps, (plus lots more examples with this punch!!!) it all starts September 2nd!!! I will be previewing a set or two every day this week here and you can find a list of our other design team members participating each day on Gina K's blog, so be sure to check them all out!
Enjoy your holiday, thanks for stopping in!

Blog Candy Alert! Mark Your Calendars...
As I said before, I am doing two different blog candy offerings this week! Here's some important info: The first candy I'm giving away is my new set! The ninth offering of mine from Gina K Designs, it is one you are REALLY going to want and contains more images than any of my previous sets (I know, I still can't even believe it!)
You may leave a comment once per day during our sneak peeks, which start September 2nd. Then on Friday, September 5th (the day of our BIG RELEASE and party) I will draw a name randomly from the first three days entries and announce the winner of the set that morning (so you know if you're getting it free that night or need to go shopping!) ;) as well as show you a project made with it, along with providing info on the next candy offering!* (It is a prize package that has never been offered here before, but it's a BIG one! ) There will be multiple ways to enter that one, with the winner being announced the following Monday. I am so excited for all this fun stuff, so please plan on coming to play every day!
* There may be some hints the next few days as to what it is...or maybe if you play your cards right, I'll end up telling you early LOL! I LOVE spilling my own secrets ;)

Bunch o' Punch: Part 1
Here is the first installment in a series of posts sharing my findings on the Large Flourish Punch, aka "My New Favorite Toy"! When it first caught my eye in Gina's store, I thought of how pretty it would be on vintage cards or as an accent with flourish stamps and patterned papers, but the more I looked at it, I realized something very different about it from my other punches: unlike all my squares, circles, etc, the shape of this flourish is asymmetrical. This allows for some pretty amazing combinations and borders, which you will soon see. If you're not all completely sold that this is a MUST HAVE (and what a deal this thing is for $13.99!) by my last installment, I'll eat...some chocolate LOL! (to cheer myself up after learning I'm not as persuasive as I think:)
Can you imagine how gorgeous they would be framed by themselves on a mat for your card or as an embellishment in a corner or below a greeting? Each "image" above one uses just two punched flourishes, with the exception of the "butterfly" in the center (uses 4)
and my single "monograms" at the lower left ("C" is for "Carolyn", "G" is for "Gina"! ;) You can make other calligraphic letters, too, have fun using your imagination...

First, here are a bunch of punched flourishes, looped together and turned in different ways to make very different, dramatic larger flourishes!* (and they can all be flipped upside down for a different look, and this is not even all you can make)

After making a bunch of these, I began seeing some "Rorschach" type images pop out at me (a ladybug, owl, etc) kind of cool...what do you see?? :)
You like so far? Stay tuned for part 2!
* This reminds me a little bit of a sheet I saw a few years ago on the many ways the wrought iron corner punch from SU! could be modified with a craft knife cutting off different parts to make a new looking corner slot, it was way cool, but I don't think I ever actually made any (that would just take more time!) The above, though, require no cutting other than the basic punch, so I expect to use them other than justas one simple flourish a lot, and you should expect to see lots of cards from me using them in different ways here. A Quickie Glue Pen or Mono Multi is all you need to stick down those delicate parts! :)

Time Again to Rock the Vote!

Hugs and kisses,

*and/or my other peep Julie Koerber, another insanely talented past Gina K Guest Designer, who I love and miss already! gotta give her props ;)
The Fastest Card I (N)Ever Stamped!
My new release sets came today (woo hoo!) which required lots of trimming and left little time for stamping! So instead of stamping, I put a few things from my very large order of stuff Gina K just recently added to the store to good use, assembling about the quickest card on earth! ta da!
This uses just part of one 6x6 piece from a brand new paper line Gina K will be carrying (she discovered them at CHA), available for purchase next Friday, September 5th! (Just wait til you see the rest of them (this particular pad's palette is a yummy mix of aqua, teal and dark cocoa), so many color option and designs, and if you've been paying close attention to Gina's blog, each 6x6 pack is textured and double-sided!) I mounted this on a piece on textured DCWV Earth Elements CS pack (a terrific match for the brown in this DP!) on white CS. That's it! Isn't the loopy, swoopy border and "love" element on the print to die for? Now kick it up a little bit with some white brads...
getting better, but I couldn't stop without a quick press of my new Large Flourish Punch (now available) into that same textured DCWV brown, hooking my punched flourish around the brads and tacking the ends down with a little Mono Multi.

I LOVE IT! I have so many ideas for this punch (as well as the others) and can't wait to try them all out and show you some little mini tutorials!
Sneak peeks are just a few days away, with TWO blog candys going on! :) Have a great weekend!
PS REMINDER: This is the final weekend a portion of the profits from "Flowers for Daisy" are going to the American Cancer Society, buy your set NOW to contribute $4 to a cause that touches all our lives!
