Today's card was inspired by a gift from my roommate in college, she bought me a lava lamp for my birthday freshman year! Well, that was a huge deal because we'd just met and I sure couldn't afford to buy anyone a lava lamp as a student, plus it was just so darn cool!! (Needless to say, we are still friends after all these years.) :) Since she has a birthday near Valentine's day every year it's fun to send her a birthday card with a heart theme. I colored this one the same as my real lamp except for the one little red heart, then die cut some nestabilities hearts from Ocean Mist to match, sponging them with a little aqua ink while the die as still in place really makes them pop and adds lots of dimension like those lava blobs bubbling up! I used this funky undulating pattern DP from Basic Grey Offbeat, and a notebook print from Cosmo Cricket's Boyfriend pack, I love this for stamping a greeting on (so I've just been using it in strips to get more mileage out it!!) plus stamped a few little hearts below to look like doodles. Other cardstock is Black Onyx, Lipstick Red, and Glossy White. For a finishing touch, my card needed something but I wasn't really feelin' any of my embellishments or ribbons with this theme, so I used a skinny strip of black I trimmed off my mat, curled it around a pencil and then attached to my lamp as a cord. I likey! :)
