I cried like a little girl

...when I watched American Idol tonight, this segment with Chris Medina is worth watching multiple times, because he sings like an angel, but also for his story of incredible commitment and love. LOVE. THIS. GUY.

My husband left the room before Chris brought his girlfriend in to meet the judges, and I thought it was because he just didn't want to get choked up (he's a sentimental guy but tried hard to hide it). As the show went to commercial I suddenly realized how easily OUR story could have ended this way. You may have read my post last September about how I got in a terrible car wreck one month before we got married (we'd been engaged about a year and a half). I walked away from it. Because I suffered no injuries, I think I've always viewed it as how fortunate I was to survive, that it was life or death, but I'm not sure if I've ever thought until tonight in terms of how I also could have lived but become quadriplegic, or suffered serious brain trauma like Chris' fiancee did... I shiver thinking about it again. But what a testament this video is to what love is and what it can do.

Excuse me while I go watch it again... (sniffle) and then go download the song (wahhh!) Hope it lifts you up if you weren't watching it tonight and I've helped round up some more fans for him. ;) Go Chris!!

I usually watch this show but only caught part of it, missed this section. Thank you sooooo much for sharing this with all of us. I too cried, who wouldn't? He's definitely got my vote, great talent and what a guy and how about those judges...very touching.

Me, too. And I had never seen Steven Tyler in anything but singing in the band, and I'm ashamed to say, I stereotyped a bit based on his appearance. I cannot believe how truly wonderful he was just loving on her.

Thank you SO much for sharing this video. I don't watch AI, so I might not have seen this clip, if you hadn't posted it.

Oh my God, that made me cry too!!!! What dedication! And that poor, poor girl. I hope he goes far.

You are very lucky to walk away from an accident uninjured. Well, physically anyway. You don't walk away totally unscathed though. Hugs to you!

Thank you so much for sharing this Mel. It has touched me as well. Most of us can only hope that we would be as faithful as this young man if we are ever faced with a similar situation, God forbid.

You were spared for a very special reason...and because of it your craft has blessed many hearts.

Thanks for sharing this, Melanie. I never watch American Idol -- not that I have anything against it, just don't take the time. What a fantastic story of love and commitment. The world needs more people like that young man. Go Chris! I hope he wins for himself and for his sweet, lovely finance.

I saw this, too! Oh my gosh, what a guy. I work with severely multiple-impaired young adults and I can tell you his job in helping to care for her is no small thing. He knows what true love is!!! I hope he goes far in the competition. :D
